Posting Summary The Office of College Events is seeking a College Events Associate who must be eligible for federal work study funding (approved via the Teachers College Office of Financial Aid). The College Events Associate will provide support on general tasks in support of various departmental functions and projects. This position requires a commitment of a minimum of 12 hours/week. Job Summary/Basic Function The Office of College Events is seeking a College Events Associate who must be eligible for Federal Work Study funding as approved via the Teachers College Office of Financial Aid. The position will provide support on general tasks in support of various departmental functions and projects and requires a commitment of a minimum of 12 hours/week. Responsibilities Oversee organization of office and event supplies: Fold/steam tablecloths, maintain tidiness of materials, make name tags, etc. Provide support across all internal events: Pack supplies, assemble step & repeats, work at events, pack up events, etc. Manage physical and digital inventorying of Convocation Academic Attire Lottery Program: Fold and package gowns, inventory honor cords, check out academic attire Write emails and make phone calls on behalf of the College Events Office, correspond with faculty, alumni, and students in a professional manner Provide major support in the months leading up to Convocation and working at Convocation ceremonies (responsibility tentative) Support general office functions Contribute to and support with special projects Assist with the planning and execution of programs within the department Assist with website maintenance, communications, and database management Assist with communications and clerical responsibilities, including answering phones and emails Documents Required For Consideration Resume Cover letter Applications with missing documents will not be considered Please Note Only U.S. Citizens and eligible non-citizens are eligible for this position This position is not eligible for tuition credits. Scheduling Student work schedules are based on the needs of the department and the student’s academic schedule. Students should discuss their schedules with the hiring manager/supervisor during the interview process. Hiring managers/supervisors will make every attempt to accommodate students’ needs. Work Limitations During the academic year, students may not hold appointments or any combination of appointments totaling more than 27 hours per week (International students may work up to 20 hours). Student Learning Outcomes Career and Self-Development Leadership Professionalism Communication Teamwork Critical Thinking Technology (Software or equipment) Minimum Qualifications Must have been awarded federal work-study for the term in which a work-study position is being sought Must be a TC student currently enrolled in a degree program and taking at least 5 credits during the fall/spring semesters Must be able to abide by Teachers College academic and personnel policies and guidelines, including FERPA, Student Confidentiality Agreement, and the Student Privacy Requirements A minimum commitment of 2 semesters Previous experience Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and Social Media Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and communication skills Strong presentation skills Excellent time management and organizational skills Strong computer, research, and presentation skills Ability to work independently Ability to work as part of a team Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously Ability to complete assigned projects with minimal supervision Preferred Qualifications Able to lift/carry 20 lbs, perform light physical labor at a brisk pace, sit and stand for extended periods of time Able to spend work hours with little downtime (event preparation and events can be around 4-5 hours) Willingness to organize, tidy, and provide detailed/accurate inventorying Salary Range $18/hour Work Modality Student Employee - Onsite #J-18808-Ljbffr Teachers College, Columbia University
