Accounting Manager

BMC is hiring an Accounting Manager to lead the client advisory relationship for a portfolio of business clients. This is not a compliance-only role. You'll be the strategic point of contact for the clients you serve, balancing technical tax and accounting work with the relationship side of advisory. What you'll do: Manage the consulting and advisory relationships for assigned clients Meet with each client quarterly to review financials, projections, and tax savings opportunities Meet with each client annually to deliver and discuss their tax returns Identify and deliver additional advisory services for select clients Review financial statements and tax returns prepared by Senior Accountants Mentor Senior and Staff Accountants and help identify team-wide training needs Assist the Accounting Services Director with onboarding, 90-day reviews, and quarterly staff reviews Step into client ownership during transitions, onboarding, or growth periods What we're looking for: Experience in public accounting, ideally with exposure to both tax and advisory work Strong technical foundation in corporate and individual tax preparation and review Comfort leading client conversations about financial health, projections, and strategy Interest in mentoring and developing junior staff EA or CPA preferred (we support and reimburse continuing education and certifications) The basics: Location: Remote, hybrid, or in-office (Frederick, MD) Compensation: $95,000 to $120,000 base Tax season: 10 additional hours per week, February 1 through April 15, paid on top of base Bonuses: Tax season bonus, holiday bonus, company-wide incentive plan PTO: Three weeks in year one, plus floating holidays and summer half-day Fridays Benefits: Health insurance, SIMPLE IRA with 3% match, employer-paid long-term disability and life insurance equal to your base salary, Employee Assistance Program, Care Partner Program, paid volunteer hours Who we are: BMC is a 44-year-old advisory-focused accounting firm based in Frederick, Maryland, serving business clients across MD, VA, DC, PA, WV, and DE.
