Job Title : Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) Reports To/Supervisor : Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) / Director Special Education Site Lead(s) : Site Principal Location : Network or Designated School Site Classification : Full-time, depending on assignment, Non-Exempt Number of Working Days : 192 Work Calendar: 11 Month Hourly - 192 Day (+11 Holidays) Salary/Pay Rate : On the SLPA Pay Scale(see below) About Us : California Montessori Project (CMP) is a successful public charter school network based in the greater Sacramento area with an exceptional TK-8 Montessori program that is tuition-free and open to all students. The network serves over 3,000 students on seven campuses. CMP is authorized through, and maintains strong relationships with four school districts: Elk Grove Unified School District, Sacramento City Unified School District, San Juan Unified School District and Buckeye Union School District. CMP teachers are supported in pursuing dual-certification, holding a Montessori certification from an AMS-accredited training center and a California state credential. The CMP Leadership Team, including the Governing Board, Directors, Principals, and Deans, provide stability and focused guidance to the organization. CMP’s commitment to equity and student success is anchored in the frameworks of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), which build sustainable systems and promote whole-child development. CMP Mission : The Mission of the California Montessori Project is to provide a quality, tuition-free, TK-8, Montessori education that challenges our students to reach their full potential. Summary / Objective The Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) works under the direct supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to support students with communication disorders. The SLPA helps implement therapy plans, prepares materials, and provides direct and indirect services to students, contributing to CMP’s mission of supporting each child’s academic and social success. Essential Functions Deliver direct speech and language services to students under the supervision of an SLP. Implement therapy activities designed by the supervising SLP to support speech, language, and communication goals. Prepare and organize instructional and therapy materials. Collect and document data on student performance and progress toward goals. Maintain accurate and timely records as required by CMP, state, and federal guidelines. Support the administration of speech and language screenings under SLP direction. Communicate with teachers, staff, and parents regarding student progress as guided by the SLP. Assist in maintaining therapy spaces, equipment, and supplies. Follow ethical and professional standards consistent with ASHA and state licensing requirements. Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and collaborative planning sessions. Qualifications Knowledge of speech, language, and communication development. Ability to implement therapy plans with fidelity. Strong organizational and data-collection skills. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Collaborative and team-oriented mindset. Professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion. Flexibility to support students across various educational environments. Supervisory Responsibilities This position does not supervise others. Work Setting This job operates in a school/classroom setting. The role requires working directly with students, teachers, and related service providers. The employee may be assigned to multiple school sites where students, staff, and families are present. Work may include indoor and outdoor settings, with occasional exposure to varied temperatures, noise levels, and public interaction. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, sit, use hands, and reach with arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Safety Measures Safety Protocols: Following established safety protocols and guidelines to ensure the physical and emotional well‑being of all students. Proper Techniques: Utilising appropriate techniques for assisting students with physical disabilities or behavioural challenges to prevent injury to both students and staff. Health Considerations: Adhering to health and hygiene standards and being mindful of any allergies or medical conditions that students may have. Travel Requirements Minimal. May require occasional travel between CMP campuses or to district meetings. Adherence to CMP’s Motor Vehicle Use policy is required. Required Education and Experience Associate’s Degree from a community college or technical training program from an accredited Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) program. Current certification as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA). Minimum of 1 year of experience working with children. Preferred Education and Experience Experience working in a school setting. Bachelor’s degree in communication sciences and disorders from an accredited institution. College degree (associate’s or bachelor’s) from an accredited institution plus completion of an SLPA certificate programme with equivalent coursework.
