Assistant Electrical Engineer

This position is ONLY open to candidates serving permanently in the civil service Assistant Electrical Engineer title or candidates who have taken and passed Exam #3108 and are reachable. Kindly include the exam number and your list number at the top of your resume The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) is the largest Fire Department in the United States and is universally recognized as the world's busiest and most highly skilled emergency response agency. The Bureau of Fire Prevention cultivates a safer city for its citizens, visitors and first responders by preventing loss of life and property damage from fire and other emergencies. It does this 24/7 by inspecting fire and life safety hazards, creating, revising, and enforcing the New York City Fire Code, reviewing plans for critical systems designed to protect and alert building occupants, licensing qualified companies to install and service fire protection equipment and systems, certifying individuals to monitor fire safety conditions, and educating individuals and businesses about fire safety. The Assistant Electrical Engineer will: Review fire alarm plans and documents and recommend approvals or disapprovals. Review fire alarm plan submissions, including equipment reviews for Certificates of Approval, and examine proposed fire alarm systems for residential, commercial, and industrial occupancies. Research codes and standards, review fire alarm‑related technical reports, and participate in technical meetings. Review technical proposals for fire alarm installations submitted by city agencies and the fire alarm industry. Prepare written responses for plan and equipment review submissions. Assist in developing technical guidelines for fire alarm equipment documentation submissions. Meet with city agencies, contractors, and expeditors to discuss fire alarm installation submissions. Coordinate and perform inspections of fire alarm installations to determine project completion. Coordinate the plan review process with the Department of Buildings and other city and state agencies. Requirements A baccalaureate degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university and at least one year of full‑time satisfactory experience in electrical engineering work. A baccalaureate degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university plus a master’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university (the master’s degree substitutes for one year of full‑time satisfactory experience).
