Packaging Engineer

Overview Akkodis is seeking a Packaging Engineer for a Contract Position with our client in Aerospace/Avionics, located in Grand Rapids, MI. Pay Range: $60/hr to $75/hr on W2. The pay may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors. Location: Grand Rapids, MI • Job Type: Contract Responsibilities Understand packaging design and transportation of product to end client Must have experience with Transportation of Large packages. Know who and how to ship these large packages. Know the right couriers. Understand packaging for transportation Design of Transportation routes Domestic and Truck shipments DOT regulated with shipping Lithium Batteries Experience with Transit times if possible Experience with WindChill or other PDM systems Electronics packaging is preferred but not required Education Bachelor Degree preferred but not required Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical/Industrial Engineering, or related field; or equivalent experience 3+ years of experience in packaging engineering or industrialization in aerospace, automotive, electronics, or similar high-reliability industry Experience designing and validating packaging for fragile, high-value, or electronic/avionic components Packaging design tools and basic CAD (e.g., for dunnage and carrier concepts) Creating work instructions and standard work for shop-floor operations Working with logistics providers and/or specialized carriers Familiarity with lean tools (value stream mapping, 5S, standard work, flow/pull) and EHS/ergonomic principles Desired Qualifications Experience with aerospace or defense packaging standards, export compliance, and customer-specific requirements. Hands-on experience with returnable packaging, special carriers, and in-cell packaging/inspection flows Prior participation in kaizen events or Shingijutsu-style transformations Core Behaviors Demonstrates Respect for People by designing safe, ergonomic packaging and involving operators in problem-solving.
