CNC Lathe Set-Up Operator / MachinistThis role is a hands-on CNC lathe set-up operator position in a high-volume manufacturing environment. You will be responsible for setting up and operating CNC HAAS machines, performing precise quality checks, and making program edits using G&M code to ensure parts meet exact specifications throughout production runs.ResponsibilitiesRetrieve raw materials from the staging area and prepare them for production.Load bar stock and various types of metals into CNC HAAS milling and lathe machines.Set up and run a cell consisting of three CNC machines, ensuring each machine is correctly configured for the job.Perform approximately three complete machine set-ups per day, including tooling, offsets, and program verification.Run the first piece and perform a 100% quality check on the part to confirm it meets all specifications before starting production.Run production and perform quality checks on at least one part every hour to maintain consistent quality standards.Use micrometers, calipers, gauges, and profiling tools to measure parts and verify they are within specified tolerances.Hold tight tolerances of +/- 0.005 inches on all critical dimensions.Read and interpret blueprints and prints to understand part requirements and machining operations.Utilize G&M code on Fanuc controls to make program edits as needed to improve part quality or resolve issues.Troubleshoot machining and quality issues, adjusting tooling, offsets, or programs to maintain productivity and accuracy.Perform changeovers efficiently between different jobs to maximize machine uptime.Work with live tooling on CNC lathes when required by the job.Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow all safety procedures and guidelines.Collaborate with team members and quality personnel to resolve production and quality concerns.Essential SkillsMinimum of 3 years of CNC set-up and operation experience on lathes.Minimum of 3 years of experience reading and working from prints and blueprints.Proficiency in CNC lathe operations, including set-up, tooling, and running production.Ability to use live tooling on CNC lathes.Ability to read and interpret G&M code and make program edits on Fanuc controls.Strong print reading skills to accurately translate drawings into machining operations.Hands-on quality control experience using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and profiling tools.Ability to consistently hold tight tolerances of +/- 0.005 inches.Troubleshooting skills to identify and correct machining or quality issues.Experience with changeovers and working in a multi-machine cell environment.Solid understanding of CNC machining processes, particularly lathe and mill operations.Why Work Here?You will join a growing, well-invested manufacturing operation that supports your wellbeing and professional development. You will work on first shift, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and can expect to work around 50 hours per week, with overtime primarily on Fridays and minimal weekend work. The shop uses modern CNC equipment, including HAAS machines with Fanuc controls, and supports a structured, quality-focused production environment. The dress code includes jeans, steel-toe footwear, high-visibility clothing, and safety glasses to meet safety standards on the shop floor.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of La Porte, IN.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00/hr.Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
