Step into an essential role supporting student success within a vibrant middle school environment. This contract paraprofessional position, based near West Hartford, CT, offers the rewarding opportunity to make a positive difference every day. You'll work 1:1 with an 8th-grade student, providing guidance and assistance tailored to their individual needs. With hours from 7:30 am to 2:40 pm (including a 30-minute unpaid lunch), you'll enjoy a consistent daytime schedule and the fulfillment of seeing your impact firsthand.
Key Qualifications:
- Prior experience working with students, especially those displaying behavioral challenges
- Completion of—or willingness to obtain—state-mandated trainings
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and de-escalation skills
- Patience, flexibility, and a genuine passion for helping young people thrive
- Reliability, punctuality, and the ability to maintain confidentiality
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct daily support and structure for an assigned 8th-grade student
- Assist with classroom participation, transitions, and positive behavior strategies
- Collaborate closely with teachers, counselors, and other educational professionals
- Support Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals as directed by instructional staff
- Foster a nurturing, safe, and inclusive learning environment
- Maintain clear and professional communication with staff and families when requested
