Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant - Outpatient ENT

Job Overview Stanford Health Care is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) for our outpatient Otolaryngology (ENT) team. The position supports a Rhinologist and an Otologist, managing an independent, comprehensive ENT practice across Redwood City and Palo Alto clinics. Schedule: Monday‑Friday, 8‑hour days. Responsibilities Evaluate, diagnose, and treat a wide range of outpatient ENT conditions, including new patient visits, return visits, and pre‑ and post‑operative care. Perform clinic‑based ENT procedures within the provider’s scope of practice. Obtain complete histories and perform pertinent physical examinations with assessment of normal and abnormal findings on new and return patients. Perform or request diagnostic studies as indicated and evaluate results. Administer, order, furnish, and prescribe medications according to written standardized procedures. Order and collect specimens for routine laboratory tests, screening procedures and therapeutic procedures, including blood and blood products. Order physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, radiology examinations and nursing services. Perform or request procedures after demonstrated competency, according to written standardized procedures where applicable. Obtain informed consent as indicated. Initiate arrangements for hospital admissions and discharges and complete appropriate paperwork. Assist supervising physician in the operating room as appropriate. Consult with supervising physician regarding tasks that exceed current level of competence and refer such cases to a collaborating physician. Assist in enrolling patients in investigational studies approved by the Investigational Review Board (IRB) and order the necessary tests and medications. Coordinate inpatient and outpatient care and services as needed, facilitating collaboration between providers and community resources. Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and clinical policies and procedures. Participate in quality improvement initiatives. Provide and coordinate patient teaching and counseling. Qualification Criteria Master’s or Doctoral degree in nursing from an accredited college or university. Graduate of an NP program accredited by the National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Registered Nurse (RN) state licensure and/or Compact State Licensure. Valid Nurse Practitioner (NP) license and NP Furnishing Number. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Competency & Practice Expectations Provide medical services only within the scope of the NP’s competence and education. Work under the supervision of a physician responsible for the patients cared for by the NP. Consult with supervising physician for any task, procedure, or diagnostic problem that exceeds current competence. Adhere to written standardized procedures for assessment, management, medication administration, and procedural care. Demonstrate proficiency in performing designated procedures once competency has been proven. Obtain informed consent and initiate necessary arrangements for admissions, discharges, and patient transfers. Assist the supervising physician in the operating room and follow surgical protocols. Provide clear and compassionate communication with patients, families, staff, and community members from diverse backgrounds. Respond promptly to situations that require immediate physician attention and initiate life‑saving procedures when necessary. Support coordination of care and facilitate collaboration between providers and community resources. Participate in continuous quality improvement activities. Compensation Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $89.01 – $117.94 per hour. Salary will be set based on internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
