Edwards Cancer Institute is part of a large multi-disciplinary practice group with a state-of-the-art clinic. Marshall University, a major University Medical Center located in Huntington, West Virginia, is merging the two hospitals in Huntington, Cabell Huntington Hospital and Saint Mary's Medical Center. The cancer program is growing and developing with NCI-sponsored protocols and some industry-supported trials.

The institute plans to update its gynecologic oncology brachytherapy equipment and start a radioisotope program. There are multidisciplinary tumor boards in gastroenterology, sarcoma, breast cancer, lung cancer, and gynecologic oncology. The BrainLab program is used for stereotactic treatment to the brain and spine, and the Varian TrueBeam is used for other stereotactic treatments. There is an active high-dose-rate brachytherapy program.

The town of Huntington, West Virginia, contains the Medical Center and its associated hospitals as well as the main University. It offers many amenities within the city while allowing for a relatively low possible living and easy commuting. The resident population is approximately 50,000+ and it is home to Marshall University. It is a family-friendly environment with a moderate climate and good schools public and private. It is serviced by two regional airports Huntington (HTS) and Charleston (CRW) and is a 2-hour drive from Lexington, Columbus, or Cincinnati.
