Job Title: CNC Lathe Machinist Job Description

We are seeking a skilled CNC Lathe Machinist to set up and operate CNC equipment, edit and modify CNC programs at the machine, select tooling and cutting parameters, perform tool offsets and machine adjustments, and read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings. You will be responsible for machining shafts, pump parts, sleeves, bushings, couplings, and industrial components, manufacturing one-off and low-volume custom parts, inspecting finished parts using precision measuring equipment, and troubleshooting machining and tooling issues. Additionally, you will maintain tight tolerances and quality standards, support repair and restoration projects for industrial equipment, and perform preventative maintenance on machining equipment.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC equipment independently.

• Edit and modify CNC programs directly at the machine.

• Select appropriate tooling and cutting parameters.

• Perform tool offsets and machine adjustments.

• Read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.

• Machine a variety of industrial components including shafts and pump parts.

• Manufacture custom one-off and low-volume parts.

• Inspect finished parts using precision measuring equipment.

• Troubleshoot machining and tooling issues effectively.

• Maintain tight tolerances and uphold quality standards.

• Support repair and restoration projects for industrial equipment.

• Perform preventative maintenance on machining equipment.

Essential Skills

• 3+ years of CNC machining experience.

• Ability to independently run a CNC machine from setup to finished part.

• Program editing experience.

• Complete machine setup expertise.

• Tool change and tooling selection proficiency.

• Blueprint reading experience.

• Strong GD&T knowledge.

• Experience in inspecting machined parts.

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Strong troubleshooting skills.

• Experience holding tight tolerances.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Knowledge of G Code and M Code.

• Experience with conversational programming.

• Familiarity with Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, Okuma, and Mori Seiki controls.

• Competence in tool offsets and tool changes.

• Setup technician capabilities.

• First piece inspection proficiency.

• Precision machining and quality control using gauges and dial indicators.

• Skills in threading, boring, turning, facing, grooving, taper turning, and shaft repair.

Work Environment

This facility operates a single CNC lathe, requiring a self-sufficient machinist capable of handling all aspects of the job from setup to finished product. The role demands someone who is comfortable editing programs, performing complete machine setups, selecting tooling, inspecting parts, and troubleshooting machining issues independently. This is a hands-on position that emphasizes technical skill and autonomy.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Decatur, AL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $37.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
