Job Summary The EHS Specialist function utilizes the existing procedures and their acquired knowledge to provide EHS technical support to the Plant through coordination of EHS activities and programs. This role supports the implementation, execution, and maintenance of the environmental, health, and safety systems for the plant. As the EHS Specialist, you will work collaboratively with the Corporate EHS team, Plant Management, Production, Maintenance, and Engineering team members and focus on various projects and initiatives within these teams. Essential Duties Review accidents and incidents, conduct field audits and reporting and oversee EHSC corrective actions. Coordinate with Plant Manager, Production, Maintenance, and Engineering Departments on facility, safety, and personnel training deficiencies through site audits and inspections. Support EHS management system through proactive engagement with the EHS program champions. Survey employee population to identify safety concerns and implement corrective actions. Learn and conduct industrial hygiene sampling, reporting, and compliance with the goal of meeting the SGI target of ½ of all allowable limits. Ensure that Corporate EHS management practices are embedded in the operation and those practices are driving the appropriate behavior. Identify site‑specific circumstances requiring changes to the EHS management system, and enable the successful implementation and sustainability at a local level. Utilize the EHS Enterprise System (Velocity – EHS) – record and analyze accident and incident records and make recommendations regarding corrective actions, emphasizing proactive intervention. Partner with plant leadership and operators, ensuring that the plant is free from risks to the environment, health, and safety. Conduct accident investigations, together with site management develop a response to MSHA citations and challenges to citations as warranted. Conduct required environmental sampling, reporting and permitting in coordination with the Corporate Environmental Manager. Assist with the new employee completion of EHS training for all employees. Partner with plant leadership to ensure that accident and incident investigations are conducted in a timely, effective, and thorough manner to determine root cause and prevention measures. Conduct all plant visits/tours by government agencies. Ensure the findings of accident investigations, safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments are brought to the attention of leadership and others who may be affected. Coordinate with appropriate industry‑related vendors, internal stakeholders, and SMEs related to the EHS needs of the organization. Coordinate HS training and records across the plant (Engineering, Maintenance, Admin, etc.). Support plant leadership on capital project planning to align sustainability efforts with capital and engineering projects. Competencies Safety Focus Coaching Delivering High Impact Presentations Influencing Initiating Action Decision Making Communication Positive Approach Qualifications Required Bachelor’s Degree required; preferably in Occupational Environmental, Health & Safety, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Industrial Engineering or related field. Experience with training and auditing. 2 years of Environmental, Health, and Safety experience (Preferred). General Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Continue to build knowledge of the company and processes. Excellent communication ability (written & verbal). An assertive approach to solving problems. Ability to prioritize, to multitask, and handle multiple projects simultaneously. Computer (intermediate knowledge). G‑Suite (Google) GMail, Sheets, Docs, Slides (intermediate) (or similar). Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Basic knowledge of hazardous energy sources, mobile equipment, ergonomics, machine safeguarding, electrical safety, fire prevention, elevated work surfaces, respiratory protection, hazard communication, and other major safety standards. Basic knowledge of EHS theories and practices. Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes and technologies. Basic knowledge with MSHA regulations and handling inspections. Budget Management (basic knowledge). Leadership/Supervisor Experience Strong leadership skills. Provides guidance to team members. Accountable for own contributions. Travel Requirements 10% domestically. Compensation Base Salary Range: $72,000–$99,000. Base salary and/or rate of pay ranges listed are exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. Individual compensation offers will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to geographic location, relevant candidate experience and skill, education, and/or qualifications.
