Job Description Job Description Certified Medical Assistant SITE OF SERVICE: Evans Army Community Hospital (EACH), 1650 Cochrane Cir, Fort Carson, CO 80913 POSITION OVERVIEW : The Certified Medical Assistant supporting Evans Army Community Hospital provides high-quality care to military beneficiaries in a mission-focused military treatment facility environment. This role supports the health and readiness of active-duty service members, families, and other eligible beneficiaries through direct patient care, clinical coordination, and accurate documentation in the electronic health record. POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS: Education: Certificate / Graduate from a medical assistant training program accredited by Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) of the American Medical Technologists or a formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces. Experience One year of experience within the last two years as a Certified Medical Assistant or Perioperative Technician Certification : Current certification as a medical assistant by the American Association of Medical Assistants or Current registration by the American Medical Technologists or other formal program. Additional Certification: Accredited IV certification course approved by the Colorado Board of Nursing or CDPHE. Cardiac Certification: BLS through American Heart or American Red Cross U.S. Citizenship: Shall be a U.S. citizen English Language Requirement: Shall be able to read, write, speak and understand English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and other health care providers. Physical Capability: Shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services required under the contract. Duties: This contract worker will work in the perioperative department · Prepare examination rooms prior to patient's arrival. Assist with patient check-ins, admissions, discharges, and transfers as required. · Check patient's vital signs, to include temperature, respiration, pulse, weight, blood pressure, and pulse oximeter reading. Obtain and document patient's current medical history, drug history, chief complaints, allergies and vital signs on the correct form. · Perform diagnostic procedures when ordered. Maintain examination room stock levels and perform routine maintenance of examination rooms. · Complete lab and x-ray requisitions in accordance with clinic policies. Enter demographic data into the computer upon patient check-in; enter diagnosis and departing time when patient is released. · Serves as a medical assistant performing patient care and administrative duties for outpatients. Monitors and records age-appropriate physiological measurements · Orients new patients to the clinic/hospital environment. Assists with patient check-ins, admissions, discharges, and transfers as required. · Prepares and positions patients for diagnostic testing, examinations, treatments, and clinical procedures. Performs paraprofessional portions of medical examinations, treatment, diagnostic, and clinical procedures. · Records treatment, procedure rendered, and observed effects. Identifies patient problems and accurately notifies nursing/provider team of observations. · Prepares and administers medications in accordance with scope of practice and training. · Recognizes and responds to emergencies and performs basic life support measures. · Performs paraprofessional portions of physical examinations including age appropriate physical measurements. · Adheres to infection control procedures including the use of personal protective equipment, disposal of waste, and aseptic techniques. · Ensures all equipment is properly assembled, operates, cleaned and stored at the end of each work shift. Ensures preventative maintenance and routine cleaning are performed as required. · Performs medical records reviews and applies appropriate protocols and guidelines to determine medical needs. Requires access to review and documents in electronic health record systems · Maintains patient medical records in the format required by Defense Health Agency Procedural Instruction or Manuals. · Prepares and submits administrative reports. · Participates in training and continuing education programs for new procedures, techniques, and equipment. · Ensures a safe work environment and employee safe work habits. Establishes and maintains appropriate, professional, interpersonal relationships with coworkers, families, peers, and other team members. • May be asked to start IV lines under the supervision of a licensed professional. • Conducts all other duties as assigned, commensurate with the scope of practice for Medical Technicians HOURS: Monday through Friday 8-hour shift between 0600-1800, either 0600-1630 or 0930-1800. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Teamwork skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential.
