Review the full position profile HERE THE OPPORTUNITY People Inc, a leading multi-specialty non-profit health and human services agency is seeking a Chief Financial Officer. With 200 locations across Western New York and the Greater Rochester region, People Inc. provides a diverse compliment of person-centered and innovative programs and services to more than 10,000 people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, families, and older adults. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for guiding the organization’s financial strategy, operations, and long-term sustainability. This leader will play a critical role in advancing the mission of People Inc. by ensuring sound financial stewardship, promoting transparency, and driving organizational effectiveness. The CFO will bring a mission-driven approach to financial leadership, ensuring that fiscal strategies align with the organization's purpose and values. As a collaborative and trusted partner, the CFO will provide financial expertise and insight to support strategic decision-making across all levels of the organization. This individual will lead with integrity, fostering an open and transparent financial culture that builds trust with internal and external stakeholders, including program leaders, board members, donors, and funders. Recognizing the dynamic nature of a large and complex nonprofit, the CFO must be an effective and empathetic change agent—one who can drive innovation and process improvements while respecting the organization’s history, culture, and the diverse perspectives of its staff and partners. Values Excellence, Inclusion, Integrity, Compassion, Respect, Flexibility, Accountability Quick Facts Total Revenue - $300 Million Total Employees – 4,700+ Number of clients/individuals served- 10,000 annually Property & Portfolio- 200+ Oversight The CFO reports to the CEO and will oversee the Accounting and Finance in the areas of Financial Reporting, Budgeting, Payroll, Support Services, Revenue Mgt, Accounts Receivable, Internal Audits, Annual Audits/CFR, Purchasing, Rep Payee, Tax Credit, Property Mgt Finance, and HUD. RESPONSIBILITIES Financial Leadership & Strategic Planning Act as a strategic thought partner to the CEO, Board of Directors, and senior leadership team, contributing to organizational strategy and decision-making. Oversee all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, cash flow management, and compliance with applicable regulations. Lead the development of short-term and long-term financial strategies to ensure the financial health and mission alignment of the organization. Establish and maintain strong internal controls and financial policies to ensure fiscal responsibility and accountability. Partner with the CEO and Senior VP Advancement to ensure financial planning aligns with fundraising goals. Support the organization’s efforts to diversify revenue streams, ensuring financial resilience and long-term sustainability. Financial Support for Program Leaders & Decision-Making Partner with program leaders to provide tailored financial guidance, analysis, and tools that support effective decision-making and budgeting. Collaborate with program leaders to align financial resources with strategic priorities, ensuring accurate financial tracking and accountability for program goals. Implement training for department managers to manage program budgets effectively. Serve as a trusted advisor to program leaders, helping them identify risks, opportunities, and cost-saving measures without compromising mission outcomes. Design and oversee systems to evaluate program performance against budgets and key financial metrics, ensuring data-driven decision-making. Capital Budgeting & Facilities/Asset Management Lead the capital budgeting process, ensuring strategic investment in facilities, infrastructure, and major projects to support long-term organizational growth. In collaboration with facilities management, develop and implement a comprehensive master plan for facilities, buildings, and assets that aligns with the organization's strategic objectives and financial capacity. Oversee feasibility analysis, funding strategies, and risk assessment for capital projects including HUD and tax credit properties. Work closely with operations and facilities teams to ensure capital expenditures are aligned with mission priorities and operational needs. Operational & Compliance Oversight Manage and mentor the finance and accounting team to build a collaborative, high-performing team and systems that align with organizational values and priorities. Ensure adherence to all regulatory, legal, and audit requirements, maintaining the highest standards of accountability and transparency. Spearhead change management initiatives to optimize financial processes and systems, positioning the organization for sustainable growth. Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring trust in the organization’s financial stewardship. Qualifications Minimum of 10 years of progressive senior finance and accounting experience, including a strong foundation in a large and complex health and human services non-profit or healthcare entity in NYS. Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; CPA preferred Proven experience in financial strategy, planning, and management, with a track record of driving organizational growth and stability. Strong technical expertise in financial management systems, compliance, and multi-source revenue streams. Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across departments, fostering strong relationships with program leaders, board members, and other key stakeholders. Experience leading cross-functional teams and working in partnership with operations, and program leadership to align financial strategy with mission-driven priorities. Exceptional relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage and influence diverse stakeholders while fostering a culture of transparency and trust. Experience leading capital budgeting, asset management, and facilities planning in a complex organization. Ability to develop and implement change management strategies that optimize financial systems and processes while respecting organizational culture. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to financial and non-financial leaders. Salary is competitive and will be determined based on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and the organization’s compensation structure. A general range for this role is $275,000-$300,000.
