The Opportunity

The Chair of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology is responsible for overseeing all operational and programmatic elements within the department. This includes managing clinical, research, and educational initiatives. Key duties involve strategic planning, budget management, resource allocation, faculty and trainee recruitment and mentorship, as well as the promotion of innovative, patient-centered care models. The Chair is dedicated to enhancing women's health outcomes, improving residency and medical student education, and fostering scholarly activities through research, grants, publications, and collaborations at both regional and national levels.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be an obstetrician-gynecologist or a subspecialist in OB-GYN, possessing a minimum of five years of experience as a faculty member in an academic medical setting. Proven leadership skills are essential, including experience in faculty and student mentorship, strategic planning, financial management, academic recruitment, and organizational development. Candidates must hold a Doctor of Medicine (MD or equivalent) degree, be board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology or a relevant subspecialty, and be eligible for medical licensure in West Virginia. Familiarity with the specific challenges and opportunities related to rural health and community-based research is advantageous.

The Organization

The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology is a comprehensive academic unit that offers a wide range of women's health services throughout all life stages. The department encompasses general obstetrics and gynecology, along with subspecialty expertise in areas such as maternal-fetal medicine, gynecologic surgery, pediatric and adolescent gynecology, gynecologic oncology, urogynecology, and reproductive health. Faculty and resident physicians deliver care at the Marshall Health Network - Cabell Huntington Hospital and various outpatient sites across the region, supporting both tertiary and community-based women's health services.

The Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University is a state-supported, community-oriented medical school that collaborates with 19 hospitals in the region to achieve its mission of education, service, and care. The faculty and administration are dedicated to providing high-quality medical education and residency training, with a focus on primary care at a reasonable cost, emphasizing self-reliance and community support.
