Scientist, Biologics Purification

AbbVie seeks a Scientist in Biologics Purification to develop and optimize downstream purification processes for multi-specific antibody candidates. The role involves leading purification campaigns at production scale, designing chromatography strategies, and collaborating across teams to advance biologic therapeutics from discovery through preclinical studies.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end purification campaigns at production scale for multi-specific antibody biologics
• Design and optimize downstream purification strategies using advanced chromatography to achieve target quality attributes
• Apply analytical expertise to characterize molecules, process intermediates, and impurities for data-driven decisions
• Drive process improvement by identifying and implementing novel approaches in biologics development workflows
• Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and communicate technical findings to support project advancement

Requirements

• BS in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biomedical, or Chemical Engineering with 5-7 years experience, or MS with 2-5 years experience
• Demonstrated expertise in preparative-scale column chromatography techniques for antibody purification
• Hands-on experience operating AKTA chromatography systems and Unicorn software
• Strong proficiency in analytical characterization methods including HPLC, gel electrophoresis, ELISA, and mass spectrometry
• Solid understanding of protein structure, molecular attributes, and post-translational modifications
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills for communicating to diverse audiences
• Knowledge of biologics manufacturing or process development preferred
