Deputy Substation Manager

Job Description WSP is seeking a Deputy Substation Manager for our Power & Energy Program Management Office in New York, NY. This Opportunity This position provides high‑level technical project leadership and guidance with managing the administrative, commercial, and technical components of EHV Transmission and Substation projects or a portfolio of projects in accordance with WSP’s core values and the level of project services agreed upon in the contract. The Deputy Substation Manager is responsible for the overall performance of assigned projects that are moderate to large in size/complexity and regional in scope, including oversight of financial, technical, client satisfaction, quality, safety, and schedule. Responsibilities throughout the project lifecycle (proposal, startup and planning, execution, reporting, and closeout) are adhered to, delivered, and audited with a level of quality that meets or exceeds corporate standards for safety, execution, profitability, and operational purpose. Your Impact Coordinate and communicate with all levels of management and disciplines throughout the project life cycle to support project cost and schedule objectives. Lead the development of project proposals, cost estimates, scope, schedules, and resource plans. Oversee budgeting, forecasting, scheduling, cost and change management and control. Provide regular project reporting and updates to clients, technical leads, and business leaders, identifying emergent issues with scope, risk, and/or budget and mitigation strategies. Serve as the face of WSP for the client, developing and nurturing long‑term relationships by understanding their needs and ensuring consistent communication to drive satisfaction and retention. Adhere to proven processes and develop new processes to standardize procedures. Enforce project safety standards and adhere to safety regulations. Make responsible and ethical decisions regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, Project Management, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Physical Sciences, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience within an A/E/C firm, utility, EPC, or power delivery consulting environment. 12+ years of relevant post‑education experience in a project management role within the industry. Highly proficient understanding of the project delivery process and a strong background in project management. Experience managing projects through a variety of delivery models (DBB, EPC, PDB). Advanced analytical, organizational, and business acumen to bridge business and project management. Advanced interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with leadership, subcontractors, and employees at all levels. Excellent self‑leadership with attention to detail, multitasking, and the ability to adjust to changing priorities in a dynamic work environment. Independently leads and provides guidance to mid‑level to senior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC. Advanced proficiency in technical writing, office automation, relevant software, MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Visio, Project, SharePoint), spreadsheets, and PM tools. Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including senior management, subcontractors, consultants, and company‑wide staff, even without a formal hierarchical relationship. Adaptability to change and flexibility to meet project‑specific needs. Track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. Compensation Expected salary (all locations): $145,400 – $259,100.
