Method Development Scientist II / Senior Scientist I - Small Molecule / Peptides

AbbVie Analytical R&D seeks a Method Development Scientist II to independently develop and optimize analytical methods for small molecule pharmaceuticals. The role spans preclinical through late-stage clinical programs, requiring expertise in chromatography, spectroscopy, and cross-functional collaboration with process chemistry and drug product development teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and implement analytical control strategies and methods for drug discovery candidates
• Apply separation and detection techniques to profile impurities in pharmaceutical products across cGMP manufacturing
• Conduct method development, validation, and technical data generation to support regulatory requirements
• Interpret multidisciplinary data and design follow-on experiments to advance projects through development pipeline
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Process Chemistry, Drug Product Development, and Quality Assurance

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry/Analytical Chemistry with 7+ years experience, or Master's degree with 5+ years experience
• Strong analytical chemistry background with hands-on chromatography (HPLC, UPLC, GC) and spectroscopic technique experience
• Expert proficiency in Waters Empower CDS and LIMS systems for electronic data management
• Ability to develop and troubleshoot analytical methods with minimal guidance
• Knowledge of organic structure, functional groups, and modern spectroscopic techniques for small-molecule analysis
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, with strong written and oral communication skills
