Elementary Teacher - 1st Grade (2026-2027) Position Type: Elementary Teacher Position Guide: Certified Personnel Bargaining Position Non-Exempt Nine (9) Months Relates to: District Administrators, Program Coordinator, Student Service Coordinator, Special Service Coordinator, Other faculty and staff, Parents, PTA and Community Groups Salary: Salary and Benefits: In accordance with the collective bargaining agreement between the Board of School Inspectors of School District 86, Will County, Illinois, and the Council #86 of the American Federation of Teachers - Local 604 of School District #86 found on the following link: Teachers Contract Maximum 10 years of full-time Certified Teaching Experience Job Summary: Under the direct supervision of the building principal, the classroom teacher is to create a flexible elementary grade program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation in accordance with each student’s ability; to establish good relationships with parents and other staff members. Qualifications: Professional Educator License with Self-Contained General Education Endorsement or Required Endorsement. Demonstrated capabilities in leadership, public and community relations, and academic competence. Applicants must possess effective behavior management skills. Applicants must be able to structure a classroom to maximize student learning. Applicants must be able to establish effective communication skills with a variety of stakeholders. Demonstrated knowledge outlining the curriculum and text used. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To implement all district policies as they relate to the classroom. Guarantee every student shall receive an equal opportunity for an education. Teach English Language Arts, social science, mathematics, science, health (art, music, and P.E. when applicable) to students in a classroom, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of School Inspectors, and other appropriate learning activities. Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter. Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to each student's needs. Use a variety of instructional strategies to present material to students. Translate lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere. Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare reports as needed. Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students’ progress and interpret the school program. Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping a student solve health, attitude, and learning problems. Seek assistance from or through the building principal or other support personnel to improve the instructional program or to solve specific problems. Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and learning centers. Maintain professional competence through in-service professional development opportunities. Requisition instructional materials and supplies as required. Attend all meetings as required, such as faculty, parent-teacher conferences, etc. Prepare for, conduct, and attend parent-teacher conferences as required. Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day. Administer group standardized tests in accordance with state and district testing protocols. Participate in curriculum development programs as required. Maintain a commitment to ongoing professional development.
