Job Title: Production MIG Welder Job Description
Join a busy fabrication department as a Production MIG Welder, performing high-quality welds on a variety of parts in a manufacturing environment. You will focus primarily on MIG welding of mild steel, stainless steel, and nickel alloys, working from welding blueprints and prints to produce accurate, repeatable results with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities

• Perform production welding in a manufacturing environment with a primary focus on MIG welding.
• Execute welds in flat, vertical, horizontal, and occasional out-of-position positions while maintaining high quality standards.
• Conduct MIG welding approximately 98% of the time and pulse welding approximately 2% of the time as required by the job.
• Weld on materials consisting of approximately 90% mild steel and 10% stainless steel and nickel alloys.
• Work with material thicknesses ranging from 24 gauge to 1 inch, with most work centered around 7 gauge.
• Produce typical welds of about 2-inch beads, with occasional longer welds as needed.
• Perform various weld types including fillet welds, butt welds, and circular welds according to specifications.
• Handle parts ranging from 2 inches to 6 feet in length, using appropriate techniques and equipment.
• Lift and maneuver parts, most of which weigh less than 50 pounds, and utilize an overhead crane for larger or awkward parts.
• Read and interpret weld prints, blueprints, and welding symbols to ensure accurate fabrication.
• Apply shop math and decimal measurements to verify dimensions and ensure precision (for example, understanding that 1/4\" equals 0.25).
• Use measuring tools such as tape measures, sliding squares, and calipers to check and confirm part dimensions.
• Perform fitting and fabrication tasks associated with welding operations as needed.
• Conduct grinding operations to prepare, clean, or finish welds and fabricated parts.
• Work independently and manage assigned tasks with minimal supervision while maintaining attention to detail.
• Complete a weld test that includes a 22-gauge fillet weld in flat position, a 22-gauge fillet weld in vertical down position, and a 22-gauge butt weld in flat position.
• Collaborate with other welders and fabrication team members to meet production goals and maintain workflow.
• Follow all safety procedures in the shop, including safe use of welding equipment, overhead cranes, and hand tools.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of MIG welding experience in a production or fabrication environment.
• Strong production MIG welding skills with the ability to consistently produce quality welds.
• Ability to weld in multiple positions, including flat, vertical, horizontal, and occasional out-of-position work.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting welding blueprints, weld prints, and welding symbols.
• Understanding of decimal measurements and basic shop math, such as converting fractions to decimals (e.g., 1/4\" = 0.25).
• Ability to use a tape measure accurately for layout and verification of dimensions.
• Ability to use a sliding square for measuring and checking angles and alignment.
• Ability to use calipers or a willingness to learn how to use calipers for precise measurements.
• Capability to perform fillet, butt, and circular welds on various materials and thicknesses.
• Ability to handle and maneuver parts up to approximately 50 pounds safely, with support from overhead cranes for larger parts.
• Comfort working independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high attention to detail.
• Basic grinding skills to prepare and finish welds and fabricated components.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working with mild steel, stainless steel, and nickel alloys in a fabrication environment.
• Familiarity with pulse welding processes and willingness to perform pulse welding when required.
• Experience working with material thicknesses from 24 gauge up to 1 inch, particularly around 7 gauge.
• Background in production welding, including repetitive, high-volume welding tasks.
• Experience with fitting and fabrication tasks associated with welding operations.
• Comfort using an overhead crane for moving larger or awkward parts safely.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a small welding team within a larger fabrication department.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
• Willingness to learn new tools, techniques, and shop processes as needed.

Work Environment
You will work in a fabrication department within a manufacturing facility alongside three other full-time welders and a total workforce of approximately 74 full-time employees. The environment is shop-based, with regular use of welding equipment, grinding tools, measuring instruments, and an overhead crane for larger or awkward parts. The role follows a first-shift schedule from 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Thursday, with infrequent overtime on Fridays. Dress is casual and practical, typically a T-shirt, long pants, and closed-toe shoes, suitable for a hands-on welding and fabrication setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Minneapolis, MN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $31.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
