Maintenance Mechanic - Packaging Line (Friday, Saturday and Sunday Night shift: 6:45PM-6:55AM)

Job Title: Packaging Line Mechanic, Weekend Night Shift (Friday, Saturday and Sunday 6:45 PM – 6:55 AM) Location: 100 Commerce Drive, Somerset, NJ 08873 Position Overview Packaging mechanics maintain, repair and continuously improve all packaging machinery and systems to support production within specified standards. They lead TPM initiatives, use data to drive improvement projects, and ensure a safe work environment. Responsibilities Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipment using electrical schematics, mechanical diagrams, and root‑cause analysis tools. Modify designs, replace parts, adjust settings, and requisition replacement materials as needed. Perform preventative maintenance and implement equipment improvements to return machinery to standard operation. Organize and maintain all technical documentation associated with assigned equipment. Communicate equipment status, known issues and action plans with supervisors, mechanics, operators and other employees; conduct mandatory shift‑change handoffs. Train and mentor other personnel; develop subject‑matter‑expertise within the job function. Lead, coach and participate in TPM initiatives, including line improvement teams and the PDCA cycle for decision making. Apply and uphold safety, quality, equipment‑design and environmental best practices. Execute all required paper and computer work using designated manufacturing systems. Work flexible hours, including overtime, and be available to respond to shift requirements. Qualifications Minimum 1–2 years of electrical and mechanical troubleshooting experience (education, military technical training or equivalent). Proficient at reading and interpreting mechanical diagrams, electrical schematics, and basic motor controls. Experience with equipment design best practices and the ability to diagnose operation problems. Strong root‑cause analysis skills to define and resolve issues. Comfortable using manufacturing computer systems and operating diagnostic tools. Manual dexterity and skill in handling tools; capable of performing prolonged standing, continuous movement, frequent bending and stooping. Capacity to make independent decisions with intermittent supervisory involvement. Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime.
