Associate Manager, New Verticals - Strategy & Operations

About The Team This role reports into our New Verticals team, which was launched in 2020 with the purpose of delighting our customers and empowering our local economies outside of just restaurants. Since then, we’ve launched Grocery, Convenience, Alcohol, Retail, and DashMarts while also building merchant services, dasher tooling and consumer products. About The Role Each week, millions of customers place an order that is shopped for by a Dasher in a grocery, retail, or convenience store. While most orders go well, we still see significant operational errors that occur due to payment discrepancies, poor inventory feeding, tooling integration bugs, and so much more! These operational errors can impact order accuracy, consumer satisfaction, merchant partnerships and financial outcomes. We are looking to hire two Associate Managers to help us improve consumer and merchant experience and dasher performance by fixing these errors and building new tools to help Merchants more easily manage their stores. As we are hiring for two roles, you will have the opportunity to be considered for both roles throughout the interview process & be aligned to a role based on your skills, interview performance and business need. In These Roles, You May Work On Initiatives Like Identifying ground truth signals of what has caused an operational error and proactively making things right for customers when things don’t go as planned. Building technology solutions and tools to help improve merchant performance. Shaping strategy & execution of which tools to build and how to reduce costs associated with order errors. This role sits at the intersection of strategy, operations, and product. The best operators today are rapidly generating new ideas, taking ownership over metrics and moving them in the right direction, putting together product visions, and synthesizing complex analyses — all while leveraging AI to uplevel how we operate. We expect this person to stay at the forefront of how AI is reshaping the work, actively exploring new tools, automating repetitive workflows, and finding ways to do in hours what used to take weeks. This is an individual contributor position. We operate in a hybrid model and spend a few days a month in person together. Responsibilities Strategize: From first principles, develop the optimal strategy for best serving all sides of the marketplace – dashers, merchants and consumers. Operate: Own tracking dashboards and manage week over week metrics to drive high quality operations. Analyze: Build models using Excel and SQL to evaluate the economic, operational and strategic costs and benefits of various programs and experiments – and increasingly, use AI to accelerate and deepen that analysis. Experiment: Transform strategies into operational experiments, product features and net-new tooling that create measurable outcomes. Build with AI: Use AI tools to automate manual processes, build new prototypes and develop product visions. Expected to push boundaries of what’s possible with AI in day-to-day work, and share learning with the team. Lead, collaborate and influence: Partner with and influence cross-functional teams including growth, quality, finance, product and engineering to launch initiatives to the finish line. Qualifications 4-6+ years of experience in analytical, cross‑functional workplaces (tech, operations, strategy, consulting, banking, or related). Owner mindset: continuously seeking opportunities to improve work product and own outcomes. Entrepreneurial, bias for action, building things from the ground up. Analytical: data‑driven decision making, comfortable pulling data in SQL and building models in Excel. Problem solver from first principles; synthesizes complex problems into actionable plans. Comfortable operating at both high‑level strategy and detailed execution. Unfazed by ambiguity; thrives in a rapidly changing environment. Enthusiastic about AI tools, experimenting with them and driving innovation. Bachelor’s Degree required. Compensation The successful candidate’s starting pay will fall within the pay range listed below and is determined based on job‑related factors including, but not limited to, skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. Base salary is localized according to an employee’s work location. Ranges are market‑dependent and may be modified in the future. In addition to base salary, the compensation for this role includes opportunities for equity grants. DoorDash cares about you and your overall well‑being. National base pay range for this position within the United States, including Illinois and Colorado: $105,400—$155,000 USD. Paid Time Off For salaried roles: flexible paid time off/vacation, plus 80 hours of paid sick time per year. For hourly roles: vacation accrued at about 1 hour for every 25.97 hours worked (e.g. about 6.7 hours/month if working 40 hours/week; about 3.4 hours/month if working 20 hours/week), and paid sick time accrued at 1 hour for every 30 hours worked (e.g. about 5.8 hours/month if working 40 hours/week; about 2.9 hours/month if working 20 hours/week).
