Job Title: CNC Machine Operator

Job Description

This position supports an advanced manufacturing organization that specializes in high-performance composite solutions for aerospace, defense, and industrial applications. You will set up and operate CNC machinery, ensuring all parts meet strict quality, safety, and efficiency standards while working with complex components and modern equipment in a clean, structured production environment.

Responsibilities

• Plan machining operations by reviewing work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, reference planes, and machining parameters, and by interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
• Set up CNC mills and lathes by installing and adjusting chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and pushers.
• Load feed mechanisms by lifting and positioning stock accurately and safely.
• Verify machine settings by measuring positions, first-run parts, and sample workpieces, ensuring adherence to applicable standards.
• Monitor and maintain part specifications during milling, drilling, grooving, cutting, turning, facing, knurling, and thread-chasing operations by taking measurements, detecting malfunctions, troubleshooting processes, and adjusting or reprogramming controls as needed.
• Identify, sharpen, or replace worn tools to maintain quality and productivity, following established quality assurance procedures and processes.
• Maintain safe operations at all times by following safety procedures, regulations, and best practices on the production floor.
• Perform preventive maintenance on CNC equipment by following manufacturer instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, and coordinating needed repairs.
• Document and communicate actions, irregularities, and ongoing needs by completing production and quality logs and maintaining accurate records.
• Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reviewing relevant technical publications.
• Support organizational goals by taking ownership of new and different tasks and seeking opportunities to add value to machining and production activities.
• Assist with and direct the cutting, machining, and configuration of complex block layouts prior to bonding to achieve final dimensional requirements.
• Adhere to Business Management System requirements and follow established procedures, work instructions, and documentation standards.
• Collaborate with team members and, when needed, help guide or support other operators to ensure consistent quality and productivity.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience setting up and operating CNC mills and lathes in a production environment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering plans, and work orders.
• Strong understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
• Hands-on experience with multi-axis machining, including 3+ axis operations.
• Familiarity with tool paths, feeds, and speeds for various materials and machining operations.
• Knowledge of quality control and inspection processes within a manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, gauges, and other inspection tools.
• Demonstrated troubleshooting skills for machining processes, tooling issues, and equipment adjustments.
• Experience in machine operation, including milling, drilling, turning, facing, knurling, and thread chasing.
• Ability to use tape measures, hand tools, and cutting tools safely and accurately.
• Comfort working with composite and fiberglass materials in a fabrication or production setting.
• Capability to complete production and quality documentation accurately and on time.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with advanced or complex CNC machining in aerospace, defense, or industrial applications.
• Exposure to lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, or similar process improvement methodologies.
• Experience performing inspection tasks and following structured quality assurance procedures.
• Experience in troubleshooting and implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency and quality.
• Ability to train, mentor, or support other CNC operators or production team members.
• Familiarity with Business Management Systems and adherence to documented procedures and standards.
• Interest in ongoing learning, including participation in educational opportunities and reviewing technical publications.

The role is based on a clean, well-lit production floor with individual workstations and modern CNC equipment. You will work around advanced machining centers, cutting tools, hand tools, and inspection instruments in a structured manufacturing setting that emphasizes safety and organization. The environment supports consistent processes, clear documentation, and adherence to established procedures, providing a professional and orderly workspace for precision machining.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Stoughton, MA.

The pay range for this position is $27.60 - $27.60/hr.
