Job Title: General Laborer – Food Production and Packaging

Job Description

This role involves performing a variety of general labor duties within two food production facilities, one focused on cooking soups, broths, and seasonings, and the other on cooking and packaging pet food. You will support food preparation, packaging, loading and unloading materials, and general production line activities while working closely with cooks and other team members in a fast-paced, hot, and safety-focused environment.

Responsibilities

• Support assistant cooks in preparing soups, broths, seasonings, and pet food by following established recipes and production procedures.
• Work in a hot production environment while safely handling ingredients and equipment.
• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed to move raw materials and finished products.
• Collaborate closely with cooks to create dog food and soups, ensuring consistency and quality.
• Perform case packing duties, including loading and unloading trucks with packaged products and materials.
• Transport raw materials to assistant cooks to keep production lines supplied and running efficiently.
• Lift 30+ pounds frequently while performing loading, unloading, and packing tasks.
• Move racks of packaged soups and other products throughout the facility to designated areas.
• Operate as a utility or “floater” worker by performing a combination of assistant cook, case packer, loader/unloader, and general labor tasks as needed.
• Assist with general labor duties such as food prep, production line work, sorting, and packaging.
• Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and all safety policies, including proper use of smocks, hairnets, and safety glasses.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and promptly report any issues with equipment, materials, or product quality.
• Support team members and supervisors by adapting to changing production needs and performing other related duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

• Ability to work safely and effectively in a hot, non-climate-controlled environment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and frequently lift 30+ pounds throughout the shift.
• Experience or comfort with general labor tasks such as food preparation, food production, packaging, and production line work.
• Ability to perform loading and unloading duties, including moving racks and materials within the facility.
• Willingness to work as a utility or “floater” across multiple roles, including assistant cook, case packer, loader/unloader, and general labor.
• Capability to follow written and verbal instructions and adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
• Reliability and punctuality for scheduled shifts, including overtime when required.
• Attention to detail when mixing, batching, sorting, and packaging products.
• Strong teamwork skills and the ability to work closely with cooks and other production staff.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience in food preparation, food production, or packaging is helpful.
• Experience in general help roles such as mixing, batching, sorting, or production line work is an advantage.
• Comfort working with loader and utility responsibilities across different areas of the facility.
• Flexibility to perform multiple tasks and adapt to changing production priorities.

Work Environment

You will work in a non-climate-controlled production facility that typically maintains a temperature around 75 degrees and can feel hot, especially near cooking operations. The environment follows strict Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), requiring the use of smocks, hairnets, safety glasses, and other protective gear as needed. The role involves standing for long periods, frequent lifting of 30+ pounds (up to 50 pounds in some tasks), and moving racks and materials throughout the facility. Shifts operate on a two-shift schedule: 1st shift runs from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and 2nd shift runs from 3:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. The position currently includes approximately 10 hours of overtime, with efforts made to limit weekend work; weekend shifts, when needed, are typically offered on a voluntary basis.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Beloit, WI.

The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $19.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
