Salary Court Services Officer Trainee: $49,059.79 to $77,331.24 (Schedule A), $49,059.79 to $73,464.67 (Schedule B). Starting salary normally at the minimum of the range. Promotions increase base salary by 5% but not to exceed the maximum of the range or the minimum of the band/level, whichever is greater. Court Services Officer 1: $52,593.71 to $86,166.03 (Schedule A), $52,593.71 to $81,857.73 (Schedule B). Promotion policy similar to Trainee. Remote Work The position offers a hybrid schedule, up to two days remote outside of Judiciary buildings. Requires installation of a multifactor authentication app and high‑speed home internet. Responsibilities The selected candidate will regularly interact with pretrial defendants, judges, prosecutors, public defenders, the county jail, local law enforcement, the private bar, and the public. Duties include researching criminal case histories, conducting pretrial risk assessments, preparing reports, meeting with defendants, making recommendations to judges regarding conditions of pretrial release, and staffing first appearance/central judicial processing hearings and pretrial detention hearings. In addition, the candidate will monitor conditions of pretrial release, assist defendants in attaining goals to ensure court appearance and public safety, and report non‑compliance to the court. The role requires providing guidance for clients with social, emotional and rehabilitative concerns, recommending or referring for social services, testing, treatment and counseling, and monitoring treatment progress. This position necessitates working a non‑traditional week, including weekends, holidays and after‑hours on‑call responsibilities. Qualifications Education : Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree. An associate’s degree plus two years of paraprofessional or professional experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree. Applicants may substitute experience in case management on a year‑for‑year basis, with each year equal to thirty semester‑hour credits. Experience : For Court Services Officer 1, one year of paraprofessional experience in case management involving gathering, reviewing and verifying case‑related information. Preference for experience conducting investigations, monitoring casework flow, interviewing clients, preparing investigative reports, writing case notes and correspondence. Experience with pretrial services programs is helpful. Other Requirements : Physical ability to perform work requiring climbing, prolonged standing, stretching, bending and reaching. Ability to lift and carry supplies 30–50 pounds frequently and up to 75 pounds occasionally. Possession of a valid New Jersey driver’s license if vehicle operation is required. Authorization to work in the U.S.; U.S. citizenship not required. BICAT Testing Applicants for a bilingual variant title must pass the New Jersey Civil Service Commission Bilingual Communicative Ability Test (BICAT) or provide proof of bilingual proficiency with the Commission. Background Check : Newly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting. Residency Law : Newly hired employees must establish and maintain a principal residence in New Jersey within one year.
