UMC is an academic medical center with Nevada’s only nonprofit levelI Trauma Center, verified burn center, and multi‑organ transplant center. In 2026 it became the first and only magnet‑recognized hospital in the state. The role directs, administers, and has overall strategic and executive responsibility for internal operational activities across business development, strategy, project management, process improvement, fundraising, government relations, military medicine, academic affairs, and other departments. Serves as a member of the UMC executive team and provides counsel to the CEO and executive colleagues on organization‑wide decisions. Essential Duties Participates in organization‑wide mission and strategic planning, goal setting, programming, and resource allocation. Works with administrators and executive team members to establish organization‑wide priorities, programs, and budgets, and reallocates resources as needed. Serves as organizational liaison with medical staff, allied services, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Medicine, and other academic programs. Supervises direct reports, determines workloads and schedules, recommends hires and terminations, conducts performance evaluations, disciplines staff, tracks attendance, and implements departmental policies. Contributes to service efficiency and effectiveness by offering suggestions and participating as an active team member. Develops positive relationships with external agencies, elected representatives, regulatory bodies, and key stakeholders. Creates multi‑year strategic plans integrating clinical priorities, financial goals, capital planning, and facility needs, translating executive vision into a clear roadmap. Identifies growth opportunities, access gaps, market share potential, and competitive threats using financial modeling and ROI evaluation. Translates strategies into execution plans, governance structures, KPIs, and dashboards, prioritizing capital investments and workforce plans. Job Requirements Education/Experience: Master’s degree in Health Care Administration, Business, Management, or closely related field and 20 years of executive management experience in an acute care hospital setting. Licensing/Certification: ACHE Fellow and ACHE FACHE, if applicable. Additional Position Requirements: 20+ years of current executive leadership experience (CEO, COO, CAO, CFO) within an acute care hospital. Executive leadership within an Academic Medical Center and a public entity (government). Experience overseeing classifications represented by a union. Experience within organizations with 5,000 or more employees. Include a cover letter detailing interest and additional qualifications. Leadership, decision making, employee relations, negotiation, strategic planning, problem solving. Computer proficiency and use of various software applications. Effective oral and written communication and relationship building. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Mobility to work in an office setting and use standard office equipment. Stamina to remain seated and maintain concentration for extended periods. Vision, hearing, and speech to read, speak, and communicate effectively.
