Job Goal - To provide therapy services that meet the individual needs of students with oral communication and speech and language impairments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides assessment, diagnostic, therapeutic, and instructional support services for speech and language impaired students in alignment with requirements mandated by district, state, and federal regulations and in support of students' needs.
- Attends Individual Education Program (IEP) meetings and collaborates with IEP team members for the purpose of evaluating, recommending, and implementing appropriate IEP goals, accommodations, treatments, and services for each student.
- Develops group and individual speech language therapy plans and implements therapy sessions that target IEP goals.
- Collaborates with teachers and other faculty to identify appropriate speech/language development techniques and strategies for integration into the school district's curriculum and teaching plans to effectively meet students' needs.
- Prepares, implements, and reviews an annual educational plan for each student based on IEPs to meet the student's needs and maximize learning potential.
- Administers appropriate diagnostic hearing and speech tests to identify and assess communication skill levels for the purpose of determining type of services needed.
- Works directly with students and their families to provide information and training, establish plans, improve daily functionality, and develop realistic goals related to the use of speech and language therapy techniques and equipment at home.
- Maintains contact and consults with outside agencies that provide essential services to the Special Education department and students with speech and language impairments and makes referrals as necessary.
- Monitors and reports students' progress and response to speech language pathology services and accommodations and works with students, teachers, and parents to make modifications as necessary.
- Acts as liaison between parents and medical professionals as appropriate to set up evaluations, interpret and analyze medical reports, and support appropriate treatments and services as outlined in the IEP.
- Collects and maintains proper documentation (i.e., student files, various records, confidential data, etc.) for the purpose of recording activities, providing reliable information, and identifying progress with identified goals.
- Responds to a wide variety of inquiries from staff, school personnel, professional organizations, and others for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information, and/or referring to appropriate personnel.
- Keeps abreast of relevant trends and developments in testing through research and continuous education, determines their appropriateness for inclusion in the district's initiatives, and makes recommendations as requested.
- Participates in a variety of approved trainings and activities to address professional learning needs, including in-service programs, seminars, conferences, workshops, etc.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in speech or language impairment. Must maintain a state teaching certificate preferably in Special Education.
Physical Requirements
Requires light work exerting up to ten (10) pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently. Job involves sitting most of the time.
Terms of Employment
Nine month year. Salary as recommended by the Superintendent and approved by the Board.
