Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Leads mechanical design & commercialization efforts on a cross functional project team. Oversees a variety of project engineering and production support tasks. Use in depth knowledge of engineering principles and lean manufacturing tools to bring innovative products to market.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

• Design, prototype, test and trouble shoot electromechanical access control products.
• Apply advanced mathematical analysis & FEA in validation of designs prior to prototyping & physical testing.
• Provide design solutions that fulfill product requirements, expressed and implied (through industry knowledge).
• Visualize and communicate design solutions that meet the desired project outcome.
• Prepare formal reports on product status and summaries for executive staff.
• Define appropriate tolerances for parts within assemblies to ensure it is producible and provides for a reliable, interchangeable assembly.
• Apply engineering principles to design challenges while being aware of the implications of cost, schedule and manufacturability of the product.
• Maintain an awareness of changes in the industry and in the development of components that may assist future design activities.
• Apply basic, industry drafting standards and geometric dimensioning and tolerance methods (e.g. ASME Y14.5).

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree (B. S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent) from four-year college or university; and 10+ years related experience in engineering.
• Must have working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet, e-mail and internet software. Must be proficient in SolidWorks.
• Ability to write reports and business correspondence in English and effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, technicians, and assemblers in English.
• Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis.
• Reasoning Ability Ability to apply principles of logic or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with non-verbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
