Summary Responsible for planning instruction and/or adoption of the education program to enable students to benefit from educational experiences. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Communicates, collaborates, and cooperates with colleagues, supervisors, and students. Provides a basic core program for mentally impaired students. Counsels individuals and groups of emotionally impaired students with educational, occupational, and personal needs. Plans curriculum, lessons, and special Education programs and teaching methods. Evaluates student progress based on papers submitted, test scores, and observations. Maintains the physical environment of the classroom. Maintains contact with parents of students. Works with staff to coordinate goals and objectives. Assists the student in making a realistic assessment of their abilities and in establishing educational goals consistent with these abilities. Assists in screening, evaluating and recommending placements of students. Evaluates student progress based on work output and observation, determines goals, objectives, and directions. Prepares report cards, reading records, IPEC forms, classroom observation records, and other miscellaneous survey and forms. Supervisory Responsibilities Supervises students and directs paraprofessionals. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations • Current Professional Educator License and appropriate content area endorsements. Language Skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general periodicals, professional journals, medical reports, technical procedures, or government regulations; to write reports and procedure manuals; and to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, parents, administration, and the general public. Mathematical Skills Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry, trigonometry, as well as to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to situations. Reasoning Ability Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret a wide variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and manage several abstract and concrete variables. Physical Demands The employee is frequently sitting and standing while performing the duties of this job. The employee may occasionally bend or twist at the neck and back. Specific vision abilities required include close vision for reading typewritten material. Work Environment The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The employee is frequently required to interact with students, parents, and the community. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of students. Evaluation Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education policies of evaluation for certified personnel.
