Director, Enterprise Architecture - Research and Development

Gilead Sciences seeks a Director of Enterprise Architecture for R&D to shape technology strategy and lead architecture initiatives across research functions. The role involves translating scientific and business needs into capability models, target-state architectures, and multi-year roadmaps while ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, and compliant.

Responsibilities

• Develop and evolve R&D technology strategy, multi-year roadmaps, and reference architectures aligned with scientific priorities
• Lead architecture reviews and provide guidance across solution lifecycles from use-case analysis through deployment
• Define scientific AI and knowledge capability strategy including foundation models, retrieval architectures, and ontologies
• Partner with quality, security, privacy, and compliance stakeholders to embed controls and regulatory requirements
• Mentor architects, guide delivery teams, and strengthen federated architecture practices and community

Requirements

• Master's degree with 10+ years relevant experience, or Bachelor's with 12+ years, or equivalent combination
• Extensive IT experience in corporate environments with significant end-to-end solution architecture background
• Demonstrated leadership of architecture initiatives across multiple business functions of varying complexity
• Strong knowledge of AI/ML architectures, knowledge graphs, semantic layers, and scientific workflows
• Experience with governance, risk management, security, compliance, and quality integration in architecture decisions
• Proficiency evaluating technology options: build, buy, integrate, modernize, and consolidate trade-offs
