Shifts are scheduled as 4x12 hours from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM. Weekend requirements may involve every other weekend or six weekend shifts in a six-week block. All requests for time off should be included with the submission. The facility may call off one shift per two weeks. Must work one holiday during the 13-week contract. First-time travelers are accepted. Candidates must have experience with cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and dysrhythmia interpretation and management. Skills in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care are also required. Ventilator care for chronic trach patients is essential. Medication administration capabilities, including cardiac drips (no titration), is necessary. Familiarity with respiratory support methods such as nasal cannula, oxygen administration, CPAP, and BiPAP is expected. Activation of rapid response and code teams, as well as adherence to isolation precautions, is vital. Telemetry settings experience across PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown units is a requirement. Typically, the nurse-patient ratio is 1:5, with a staffing goal of 1:4. The unit functions as a stepdown from the general surgical ICU, specializing in bariatrics and providing backup to the trauma unit. There are two beds designated for chronic trach patients, which are not considered ICU level. Experience with equipment such as ortho equipment, chest tubes, surgical drains, trach care, endo tools, and PICC lines is needed. The role includes management of IV drips such as Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, and Ketamine. Remote telemetry monitoring is in place, with tele sitting implemented to enhance patient care tech coverage. Floating to other units within skillset may be required. Daily census averages 20 patients in a 20-bed capacity unit. The patient population includes adults and geriatrics, with interdisciplinary support available from various services. Candidates must be prepared to navigate the supported diagnoses and the specific procedures related to the unit’s focus.
