Position: Coordinator of Clinical Education/Instructor
Department: EMS Education
Reports To: EMS Program Manager

Description/Summary:
The position of the Coordinator of Clinical Education is responsible for the clinical and field practicums of the EMS Education programs in accordance with state and national guidelines. This is in effect a Faculty position with additional administrative responsibilities added. The coordinator serves as a liaison between the clinical/ field sites, students and the educational program, and works closely with the Program Director to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate all phases of the clinical and field practicum training for the EMS Educational program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Coordinate practicum scheduling, orientation, and maintenance of documents and handles concerns or problems in an efficient and timely manner.
• Assure program and student and student compliance with clinical and field affiliate contract requirements including documentation of immunizations, background checks, physicals, and drug screens, as well as preparation and maintenance of various required records, reports and files at the program, state, and national levels.
• Assist with development, implementation, and monitoring of courses with an emphasis on the clinical/ field components of the program as well as implementation and coordination and a Quality improvement process for the clinical/ field practicums.
• Work with other regional EMS education programs, clinical sites, and field sites, to coordinate and administer yearly preceptor orientations and evaluations.
• Assist Program Chair in identification, review, and acquisition of needed educational resources including but not limited to textbook selection, library materials, and laboratory supplies.
• Provide regular visitation to each affiliated institution where student receives clinical experience to assure adequacy of instruction, record keeping, and evaluation of students' skills.
• Development and implementation of program policies and procedures for clinical and field components.
• Assist with evaluation of the knowledge and skills of students by assisting with lab sessions as well as practical examinations.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Education/Experience:

• Bachelor's Degree.
• Nationally Registered Paramedic.
• State Licensed Paramedic.
• Ability to become an EMS instructor in the state of Louisiana (within 6-months).
• Minimum of 2-years field experience as a paramedic providing direct patient care.
• Minimum of 2-years experience in teaching in a classroom.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's Degree.
• American Heart Association Instructor in ACLS, BLS, and PALS.
• National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians Instructor in Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support.
• Licensed by the state of Louisiana as an EMS instructor.
• Previous experience in higher education.

Physical Demands: When Applicable

• Ability to work in excess of 40 hours a week, which may include nights and weekends.
• Ability to view a computer screen for long periods of time.
• Ability to function in a high-pressure, stressful environment and meet stringent deadlines.
• Ability to operate a computer and standard office equipment.
• Ability to carry <25 lbs., stand, sit, reach, bend, climb.
