Head Chef

Daru, a Michelin Bib Gourmand–recognized Indian restaurant and cocktail bar on H Street NE in Washington, DC, is hiring a Head Chef to lead our kitchen team. We serve modern, "Indian-ish" cuisine — rooted in South Asian flavors and technique, but unbound by tradition. We're looking for a true team leader: someone who can run a disciplined, positive kitchen, mentor cooks, and uphold the standards that earned us national recognition. What you'll do Lead daily kitchen operations, service execution, and quality control Hire, train, and develop a strong BOH team; set the tone for kitchen culture Manage food costs, inventory, ordering, and vendor relationships Collaborate with ownership and our culinary partner (a James Beard Award finalist) on menu development and seasonal specials Ensure full compliance with DC health and safety standards What we're looking for 3+ years as Head Chef, Executive Sous, or CDC in a high-volume, quality-driven kitchen Deep knowledge of Indian cuisine and technique; experience with modern/progressive Indian cooking a strong plus Proven leadership — you build teams, not just menus Strong cost management and organizational skills ServSafe certification (or ability to obtain); authorized to work in the US What we offer Salary: $[65,000-75,000 based on experience] plus housing accomodations.
