Senior Accountant

Location: Denver, CO 80209 Position Summary The Senior Accountant will support the school district’s finance operations, with a primary focus on cash management, bank reconciliations, and financial accuracy. This role also requires a proactive approach to process improvement, identifying inefficiencies and implementing streamlined workflows to enhance financial operations and reporting. Key Responsibilities Core Accounting Operations Perform and oversee daily, weekly, and monthly bank reconciliations across multiple accounts Manage cash activity tracking, ensuring accurate recording and timely reconciliation Investigate and resolve discrepancies related to cash, deposits, and transactions Support month‑end and year‑end close processes with a focus on reconciliation accuracy Maintain compliance with GAAP, state, and school district financial regulations Process Improvement & Optimization Evaluate existing accounting workflows and identify opportunities for process improvements Implement standardized procedures to improve efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls Partner with finance leadership to streamline reconciliation processes and reduce manual work Document updated processes and provide training or guidance to team members as needed Support system enhancements or integrations related to financial operations Financial Reporting & Support Assist in preparing financial reports, schedules, and audit documentation Collaborate with internal departments to ensure proper financial tracking and reporting Support audit requests and ensure documentation is complete and accurate Qualifications Required: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field 5+ years of accounting experience, with a strong emphasis on cash and bank reconciliations Demonstrated experience in process improvement or workflow optimization Strong understanding of GAAP and internal controls Proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Excel Preferred: Experience working in the public sector or school district finance Familiarity with governmental accounting standards (GASB) Experience with ERP systems used in education or public administration Key Competencies Analytical thinking and problem‑solving Attention to detail and accuracy Process improvement mindset Accountability and ownership Communication and collaboration Adaptability in a dynamic environment Work Environment This position operates in a standard school district office environment and may occasionally interact with school sites.
