Job Description

• The Machine Operator II sets up and operates CNC Haas mills, Robo drills, and Fanuc-controlled equipment to produce high-quality parts in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role loads and unloads parts, performs outside manual operations such as drill press work and deburring, and uses electric drills for drilling and tapping. The position requires consistent use of precision measuring instruments to verify product dimensions and adherence to safety and quality standards in a high-volume production setting.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC Haas mills, Robo drills, and equipment with Fanuc controls to produce parts according to specifications.
• Load and unload parts into CNC and related machinery, ensuring correct orientation and secure placement.
• Perform outside manual operations including drill press work, deburring, and other secondary processes as required.
• Use electric drills to drill and tap product components accurately and safely.
• Use wrenches to securely bolt down fixtures into T-plates and ensure proper workholding for machining operations.
• Utilize properly calibrated precision measuring instruments such as calipers, depth gauges, thread gauges, pin gauges, and other dimensional inspection tools to verify part quality.
• Follow written work instructions, production travelers, and departmental procedures to complete machining tasks and documentation.
• Perform dimensional inspection of parts to confirm compliance with drawings, tolerances, and quality standards.
• Apply lean manufacturing principles and practices to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow safety protocols at all times.
• Work effectively in a repetitive, high-volume production environment while maintaining focus on safety and quality.
• Collaborate with team members and supervisors to resolve machining challenges, support tough setups, and ensure production goals are met.

Essential Skills

• Experience operating CNC mills, preferably Haas CNC machines, in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to operate vertical milling machines and related machine tools safely and effectively.
• One year of experience performing machine operation with a Haas CNC or relevant equivalent experience preferred.
• Proficiency in basic math to perform measurements, calculations, and interpret dimensions.
• Ability to read and write at a High School level or equivalent to comply with written instructions and complete departmental paperwork.
• Skill in using precision measuring instruments including calipers, depth gauges, thread gauges, pin gauges, and other dimensional inspection tools.
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and their application in a production setting.
• Familiarity with lean Six Sigma concepts as they relate to process improvement and quality.
• Ability to perform dimensional inspection and verify part conformance to specifications.
• Comfort working in a repetitive, high-volume production environment while maintaining attention to detail and quality.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent education is helpful for understanding written instructions and documentation.
• Hands-on experience with machine operation in a manufacturing environment, especially with CNC mills and vertical milling machines.
• Exposure to Haas mill machines, Robo drills, and Fanuc controls is advantageous.
• Experience applying lean manufacturing and lean Six Sigma methodologies in a production setting.
• Ability to troubleshoot machining issues and support challenging setups.
• Strong commitment to safety and quality, with an interest in producing good parts consistently.
• Willingness to work extended hours regularly and remain flexible with scheduling needs.

Work Environment

• This role is based in a manufacturing production facility on 2nd shift, typically working from 2:15 PM to 10:45 PM, with regular schedules approaching 50 hours per week and optional Saturday work for those who are flexible. The environment is a high-volume, repetitive production setting rather than a job shop, with a strong focus on safety, quality, and standard processes. You work with CNC Haas mills, Robo drills, Fanuc-controlled equipment, drill presses, deburring tools, and precision measuring instruments. The facility supports lean manufacturing practices and dimensional inspection throughout the process. Attire is typical for a production machining environment, emphasizing safety and practicality while working around machinery and inspection equipment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA.

The pay range for this position is $23.75 - $23.75/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
