Definition The Benefits Manager is a front‑line role that provides exceptional service and guidance across the district, managing benefits enrollment, claims, compliance, and supporting the risk management initiatives. Essential Functions Maintain positive customer service and relationships, manage and administer benefit programs (health, FSA, dental, vision, disability, life, PERA, wellness), assist with claims, maintain filing systems, process payroll changes, verify premium calculations, resolve carrier issues, monitor multi‑million dollar medical plan, provide updates on large claims, review unemployment claims, coordinate workers’ comp, assist HR Director with renewal data, conduct orientations, distribute notices, prepare reports, handle confidential HR matters, ensure compliance with legislation, maintain personnel files, lead committees, perform safety compliance, respond to emergencies, represent district in small claims, oversee transportation of district vehicles. Technical Skills Knowledge of employment laws (ADA, FMLA, Workers’ Comp, Unemployment), benefits and compensation, HR systems, budget oversight, data management, communication, budgeting, problem‑solving. Ability to think forward‑looking, be creative, handle sensitive situations, manage data systems, understand oral and written directions, maintain professional relationships. Experience and Education Three to five years benefits administration in an HR role, budgeting and financial reporting experience, 500+ employee organization experience preferred, office setting. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent coursework in benefits management, risk management, HR, or related field. Professional certification such as CEBS, CMS, GBA or PHR preferred. Requirements Excellent personal and organizational skills, ability to connect with employees High level of confidentiality Advanced computer skills, database and data analysis, report creation Effective oral and written communication General knowledge of employment laws Leadership and management of people, teams and projects Public speaking comfort, including trainings and orientations Physical Demands Lifting 5 to 25 pounds, stationary work, movement, visual acuity, manual dexterity, valid driver’s license.
