Director of Marketplace Operations & Growth

Manhattan, NY | Hybrid (3 Days Onsite / 2 Days Remote )

$180K–$220K + 10% Bonus

 

Position Overview

A growing multi-brand eCommerce organization is seeking a Director of Marketplace Operations & Growth to lead marketplace strategy, operations, and expansion across multiple brands and channels.

This role oversees marketplace operations, sales and advertising, catalog/listings, and technical functions. The Director will own revenue and profitability targets, identify new growth opportunities, lead managers and their teams, and ensure technical or operational roadblocks do not limit marketplace performance.

The Ideal Candidate

• Proven eCommerce or marketplace leader with experience managing managers and cross-functional teams

• Hands-on knowledge of Amazon Seller, Walmart Marketplace, eBay, or similar platforms

• Strong combination of marketplace operations, technical understanding, and commercial/growth experience

• Highly analytical with the ability to evaluate opportunities based on revenue, margin, ROI, and profitability

• Technically fluent enough to understand integrations, APIs, feeds, channel engines, and listing issues

• Strong operator who establishes KPIs/SLAs, drives accountability, and resolves bottlenecks

• Growth-oriented with experience expanding marketplaces, categories, SKUs, or private brands

Key Responsibilities

• Own marketplace strategy and performance across multiple brands and channels

• Set and manage annual revenue and net profit goals across marketplaces

• Determine where to invest based on marketplace performance, profitability, and growth potential

• Identify and execute opportunities across new marketplaces, categories, SKUs, and private-brand products

• Lead managers responsible for marketplace operations/technical functions and sales/advertising, along with the marketplace execution team

• Establish KPIs and SLAs and hold teams accountable for performance

• Maximize SKUs that are live, compliant, accurately listed, and sellable across marketplaces

• Oversee marketplace advertising, merchandising, kitting, shipping rules, and other growth initiatives

• Maintain marketplace account health, compliance, and key platform relationships

• Lead high-level marketplace negotiations around rates, terms, and program opportunities

• Partner with technical teams to diagnose and resolve integration, API, feed, channel engine, and posting issues

• Ensure marketplace infrastructure can scale with additional brands, channels, and SKU volume

• Partner with Merchandising, IT, and Customer Service on assortment, marketplace expansion, technical capabilities, and customer experience

Qualifications & Must-Haves

• 7+ years of progressive eCommerce, marketplace, or related retail experience

• Leadership experience managing managers and multi-functional teams

• Direct experience with major third-party marketplaces such as Amazon Seller, Walmart Marketplace, eBay, or similar

• Demonstrated ownership of marketplace revenue, profitability, or other financial performance metrics

• Experience across both marketplace operations and sales/growth

• Experience establishing and managing KPIs and SLAs

• Working knowledge of marketplace integrations, APIs, feeds, channel engines, and listing processes

• Track record of launching or scaling marketplaces, categories, SKUs, or brands

• Strong analytical, financial, and problem-solving skills
