Executive Chef

Melvin’s BBQ is looking for an experienced and passionate Executive Chef to lead our kitchen operations and help uphold the quality, consistency, and traditions that have made Melvin’s BBQ a Charleston favorite for generations. The Executive Chef will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of kitchen operations across our restaurants, including food quality, preparation, consistency, kitchen cleanliness, food safety, inventory, ordering, cost control, and team development. This position will work closely with ownership and restaurant management to ensure our food and kitchen operations consistently meet Melvin’s BBQ standards. We are looking for a hands-on culinary leader who takes pride in their work, understands the importance of consistency and quality, and can lead a team while maintaining a positive and professional kitchen environment. Key Responsibilities: Oversee daily kitchen operations and ensure all food is prepared according to Melvin’s BBQ recipes, standards, and specifications Maintain consistent food quality, portion sizes, presentation, and taste across locations Lead, train, coach, and develop kitchen staff and managers Establish and maintain high standards for food safety, sanitation, cleanliness, and organization Monitor food costs, waste, portion control, and overall kitchen efficiency Manage inventory levels and coordinate food ordering and receiving Work with management to develop and maintain kitchen procedures, recipes, prep lists, and operational standards Identify opportunities to improve kitchen efficiency without compromising food quality or the traditions of the brand Conduct regular kitchen inspections and follow up on areas that need improvement Help ensure proper preparation, storage, labeling, and handling of food Assist with menu development, seasonal offerings, catering needs, and product development when appropriate Maintain strong communication with restaurant managers and ownership Lead by example with a hands-on approach and a strong work ethic Help preserve the authenticity and quality of Melvin’s BBQ while supporting the continued growth of the business What We’re Looking For: Proven experience as an Executive Chef, Chef de Cuisine, Kitchen Manager, or similar leadership position Strong knowledge of restaurant kitchen operations, food safety, sanitation, and cost control Excellent leadership and team-building skills Strong organizational and communication skills Ability to train and hold team members accountable to established standards Ability to work in a fast-paced restaurant environment and remain calm under pressure Strong attention to detail and commitment to consistency A genuine passion for food and hospitality Willingness to be hands-on in the kitchen and lead by example BBQ or Southern cuisine experience is a plus, but not required About Melvin’s BBQ Melvin’s BBQ is a locally owned, family-operated Charleston business with four generations of BBQ tradition.
