Security Officer Transitional Shelter – Jamaica, NY Position Type: Part Time Pay Rate: $18.87 / Hour Job Schedule: Saturday: 07:30 AM – 03:30 PM Sunday: 03:30 PM – 11:30 PM What You’ll Do: Provide customer service to residents, staff, and visitors by carrying out security‑related procedures, site‑specific policies, and/or emergency response activities appropriate to the location. Respond to incidents, disturbances, and critical situations in a calm, professional, and problem‑solving manner, including documenting observations and reporting concerns through proper channels. Conduct regular and random patrols throughout the location, including interior common areas, exterior grounds, and perimeter points, to help deter unwanted activity and identify security‑related concerns. Monitor access to the location by observing entry and exit activity, verifying authorized access when required, and assisting with visitor and resident‑related interactions in accordance with site procedures. Support a respectful environment within the shelter setting by addressing policy‑related issues, de‑escalating tense situations when possible, and contacting local emergency services and/or site leadership when needed. Minimum Requirements: Be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles; 21+ years of age for armed roles. Possess a high school diploma or equivalent. As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a background investigation in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws. Allied Universal will consider qualified applications with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable laws. As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law.
