Role Description
Join us as a Staff Backend Engineer. This is an opportunity for a technically minded Software Engineer to join our Ventures business, where digital, innovation and strategy comes together.
Work alongside technology leadership to drive the setting and adoption of engineering standards and promote innovation.
Work with customer-focused agile squads and collaborate with product managers, architects and engineers to define the next iteration of NatWest Boxed.
What you'll do:
- Own the technical design and architecture for the most complex, mission-critical projects.
- Be hands-on by owning the end-to-end implementation and delivery of the most complex, technical modules.
- Enable our teams to leverage industry best practice and ship value to customers at pace.
- Work collaboratively across the business to resolve technical issues.
- Work with stakeholders across the business to shape the future of engineering at NatWest Boxed.
- Put the long-term interests of our customers at the heart of key decisions.
- Proactively identify key operational issues and partner with engineering teams to resolve them.
- Drive continuous improvement of operational hygiene.
Qualifications
- Strong background in software engineering, software design and architecture.
- Extensive experience of developing software in a SOA or micro-services paradigm.
- Proven technical leadership experience for one or more teams.
- Background of implementing best practice, especially around scalability, availability and performance.
- Track record of proactively identifying and solving business problems.
- Ability to effectively deliver value when faced with ambiguous problems.
- Ability to act as a subject matter expert and communicate with clarity and empathy to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Understanding how to translate business objectives into data driven insights.
- Expert-level practical and theoretical knowledge of software development.
- Substantial experience of message-driven architectures.
Requirements
