Our Scope & Scale: School Partnerships: Licensing NCAA Division I brands from 50 schools in Year 1, scaling to 300 schools by Year 6 Sports Coverage: 12 Olympic sports (soccer, volleyball, lacrosse, hockey, baseball, softball, and more) Geographic Reach: 4 regions, 200+ teams competing across the United States Competition Season: Mid-August through mid-May (9 months of continuous travel) Professional Athletes: 5,000+ professional athletes traveling for competition Youth Athletes: U17-U23 age groups (100,000+ athletes) traveling with professional teams Annual Games: 5,000+ competitive matches requiring team transportation The Transportation Challenge: Fleet Investment: $400M+ investment in proprietary transportation fleet (buses and potentially aircraft) Revenue Model: Transportation as revenue generator, not just cost center Team Travel: 200+ professional teams traveling across 4 regions continuously Integrated Model: U17-U23 youth teams traveling with professional teams Travel Volume: 50,000+ team trips annually at full scale Multi-Sport Coordination: Different travel needs for 12 sports (equipment, roster sizes, schedules) Cost Optimization: Minimize travel costs while maximizing service quality and revenue Safety & Compliance: DOT compliance, vehicle safety, driver management Operational Excellence: 99%+ on-time performance for 9-month season Geographic Coverage: Nationwide transportation network across all 50 states Year-Round Operations: Off-season maintenance, charter services, revenue optimization This is the most ambitious sports transportation operation ever built—creating a proprietary fleet that serves as both competitive advantage and revenue generator. Position Overview The VP of Transportation will be the senior executive responsible for all transportation strategy, fleet management, logistics operations, driver management, safety, and revenue optimization. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will build and operate a transportation company within a sports league—managing $400M+ in fleet assets while generating $570M+ in annual revenue. This role requires a unique combination of transportation/logistics expertise, fleet management experience, P&L responsibility, and the ability to build and scale complex operations from scratch. Compensation Package: $900,000 total compensation Base Salary: $525,000 Performance Bonus: $175,000 (target, tied to on-time performance, cost control, and revenue generation) Equity Grant: $200,000 annually (vesting over 4 years) Key Responsibilities 1. Transportation Strategy & Business Model Strategic Vision: Develop comprehensive transportation strategy that serves competitive needs while generating revenue Build vs. Charter Decision: Make strategic decision on fleet ownership vs. charter model Ownership Model: Invest $400M+ in buses and potentially aircraft Charter Model: Contract with charter companies on per-trip or seasonal basis Hybrid Model: Own core fleet, supplement with charters during peak periods Financial Analysis: Build detailed financial models comparing all options Fleet Composition: Determine optimal fleet mix Motor Coaches: Luxury buses for team travel (50+ passengers) Mini Coaches: Smaller buses for smaller teams or shorter trips (25-35 passengers) Sprinter Vans: Vans for support staff, equipment, or small groups Aircraft: Potential investment in regional jets or turboprops for long-distance travel Equipment Trucks: Specialized vehicles for transporting sports equipment Revenue Strategy: Develop strategy to generate $570M+ annually from transportation League Transportation: Revenue from professional and youth team travel Charter Services: Revenue from chartering fleet to external customers (off-season and between league trips) School Transportation: Revenue from transporting school teams, bands, groups Corporate Charter: Revenue from corporate events, conventions, business travel Tournament Shuttle Services: Revenue from championship and tournament transportation Geographic Strategy: Design network to optimize coverage and utilization across 4 regions 2. Fleet Acquisition & Management Fleet Acquisition: Lead acquisition of transportation fleet Year 1 Fleet: 100-150 motor coaches (50 teams × 2-3 buses per team cluster) Year 3 Fleet: 300-400 motor coaches Year 6 Fleet: 600-800 motor coaches (300 teams) Potential Aircraft: 10-20 aircraft if financial analysis supports Equipment Vehicles: 100+ equipment trucks and support vehicles Vehicle Selection: Select optimal vehicles for sports travel Specifications: Luxury seating, WiFi, power outlets, restrooms, luggage capacity Equipment Storage: Adequate storage for sports equipment ADA Compliance: Accessible vehicles as required Fuel Efficiency: Balance comfort with fuel economy Manufacturer Selection: Prevost, MCI, Van Hool, Setra, or other premium manufacturers Purchase vs. Lease: Determine optimal financing structure Purchase: Own vehicles outright or via financing Lease: Operating leases to preserve capital Lease-to-Own: Hybrid financing arrangements Debt Financing: Secure favorable debt terms (70% LTV, 10-year terms as indicated in financial projections) Fleet Management System: Implement comprehensive fleet management technology Vehicle tracking and telematics (GPS, diagnostics) Maintenance management Driver assignment and scheduling Fuel management Compliance tracking Financial management and P&L by vehicle 3. Logistics & Operations Travel Scheduling: Coordinate all team travel across 12 sports and 200+ teams Trip Planning: Optimize travel routes and schedules Departure Times: Coordinate with game schedules (typically travel day before games) Route Optimization: Most efficient routes balancing time and cost Rest Stops: Plan driver rest breaks per DOT regulations Overnight Trips: Hotel coordination for multi-day trips Return Travel: Post-game departure timing Multi-Sport Coordination: Manage different travel needs by sport Equipment Requirements: Different sports have vastly different equipment needs Roster Sizes: Teams range from 15-30+ players plus coaches and staff Travel Frequency: Some sports travel weekly, others less frequently Distance Patterns: Regional vs. cross-country travel by sport and schedule Youth Integration: Coordinate U17-U23 youth team travel with professional teams Combined Travel: Youth teams travel with or immediately before/after pro teams Cost Allocation: Fair allocation of costs between pro and youth programs Supervision: Ensure proper supervision and safety for minors Equipment Logistics: Specialized equipment transportation Pre-Positioning: Send equipment ahead for some sports Equipment Trucks: Dedicated vehicles for bulky equipment (hockey, baseball, etc.) Security: Protect valuable equipment during transport Real-Time Operations: 24/7 operations center managing active trips Live Tracking: Monitor all vehicles in real-time Issue Resolution: Respond immediately to breakdowns, delays, emergencies Communication: Maintain contact with drivers, teams, venues Contingency Plans: Backup plans for vehicle failures or weather delays 4.
