Job Summary The ED Paramedic provides high quality, patient-centered care within a defined scope of practice, according to certifications, state and local regulations, and facility policy. As a vital member of the healthcare team, the ED Paramedic gathers pertinent patient data, monitors vital signs, administers specified treatments and medications within the scope of practice, and ensures patient and personal safety in a hazard-free environment. The ED Paramedic delivers compassionate, holistic care, supporting the rights and dignity of all patients and promoting the vision, mission, and values of the organization. Responsibilities Serve as a member of the healthcare team through active communication, documentation, feedback, and assistance as needed or requested. Assist in facilitating the flow of patients through the emergency care system. Maintain clear communication with medical providers and nurses assigned to patients about all patient care issues. Receive patient report from EMS by radio and/or receive EMS hand‑off reports at the facility. Participate in patient placement as needed. Obtain and document initial vital signs and monitor vital signs as scheduled and/or as needed, identifying and reporting any changes in patient status. Perform testing, specimen retrieval, therapeutic procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s), within the defined scope of practice per state regulation. Document the administration of care promptly and thoroughly in the patient medical record. Administer prescribed medications, within the defined scope of practice per state regulation. Monitor patient for therapeutic response. Notify provider and intervene as appropriate in the event of an unintended response to medication. Assess patient pain regularly to promote effective pain management, including reassessments after appropriate intervention. Transport monitored and non‑monitored patients to inpatient units and diagnostic areas. Inspect patient environment and eliminate any safety risks and/or non‑compliance with regulatory standards. Implement fall precautions as needed. Respond promptly to patient requests. Strive to anticipate patient needs and resolve them proactively. Respond appropriately to emergency or crisis situations. Involve and educate the patient, family, and caregiver(s) in the patient’s care. Stock, check, and clean equipment such as stretchers, closets, and cabinets, as appropriate. Maintain good working relationships with patients, visitors, physicians, co‑workers, and other hospital staff. Participate as an engaged, active member of the healthcare team and positively promote the rest of the team to patients, families, caregivers, and other colleagues. Qualifications Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification obtained within 30 days of employment start date. Basic Cardiac Life Support certification obtained within 30 days of employment start date. PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification obtained within 30 days of employment start date. Active Paramedic license or certification. High School Graduate or GED.
