Project Manager Nuclear Projects Levels I II or III

A commercial nuclear power facility is hiring an experienced project professional to lead small to medium capital work supporting refueling outages, forced outages, and online maintenance. The role owns planning, schedule, budget, procurement, work-package readiness, risk, resource coordination, execution, and recovery when field work moves off plan.

The best fit has led commercial nuclear plant modifications or similarly regulated capital work and can work across engineering, operations, maintenance, project controls, finance, vendors, and senior leadership. Candidates will be considered for one defined level based on the distinct qualifications below.

Location: Richland, Washington

Schedule: Monday through Thursday, four 10-hour days

Pay Rate: $40.75-$103.50 per hour, depending on approved level, experience, and client approval

Per Diem: $216 per day, paid seven days per week for the first 12 months, for eligible contractors who maintain a permanent residence more than 100 miles from the worksite. This is approximately $78,840 in non-taxed per diem income over a full eligible year. Per diem is intended to cover housing and food; eligibility and tax treatment are confirmed during onboarding. Mobilization and demobilization are not offered for this requisition.

Responsibilities

• Lead project teams of approximately five to ten people and establish priorities across engineering, planning, procurement, construction, operations, maintenance, finance, and project controls.
• Manage small to medium capital projects for refueling outages, forced outages, and online maintenance from scope development through implementation, turnover, and closeout.
• Build and control project plans, schedules, budgets, resource loading, long-range strategies, and execution milestones with minimal oversight.
• Coordinate work-package preparation, parts procurement, vendor readiness, industrial and nuclear safety, ALARA planning, and field implementation.
• Track commitments, actuals, forecasts, and cost-to-complete; explain variances and keep work within approved funding.
• Resolve schedule delays, resource conflicts, emergent work, and interface issues while protecting safety, quality, and plant priorities.
• Develop and administer contracts and coordinate vendors, subcontractors, engineers, client representatives, and line managers.
• Prepare decision-ready written and oral communications for project teams, stakeholders, and senior management.
• Apply error-reduction and human-performance tools, cost-effective work-execution methods, self-assessment practices, and corrective-action requirements.
• Support outage execution, including Outage Control Center coordination, when assigned.
• Perform authorized business travel when approved by the technical representative.

Qualifications

• Level I: Bachelor degree in engineering, construction management, project management, business, or a related field plus 14 years of technical experience; OR an associate degree plus 16 years; OR a high school diploma/GED plus 18 years. A related advanced degree may substitute for two years of experience. A project-management certification is required.
• Level II: Related advanced degree plus bachelor degree and 12 years of project-management experience in a multifaceted or regulated industrial environment; OR bachelor degree plus 14 years; OR associate degree plus 16 years; OR high school diploma/GED plus 18 years. Five years of the required experience may be in a nuclear-industry position directing project-management activities or applying project-management principles.
• Level II candidates must show project-management experience with commercial nuclear power plant system replacements or upgrades.
• Level III: Bachelor degree plus at least eight years of project scheduling, including four years on large-scale or mega projects.
• Level III requires lifecycle construction-project experience across engineering, procurement, and construction; Primavera P6 proficiency; and strong knowledge of earned value management and risk management.
• All levels require strong analytical, organizational, presentation, stakeholder-management, and team-leadership skills.
• All candidates must be able to work onsite on the stated schedule and meet citizenship and site-access requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Recent commercial nuclear power plant project, outage, work-management, maintenance, operations, construction, or major-modification experience.
• PMP or another verifiable project-management credential; construction-management certification is a plus.
• Previous Reactor Operator or Senior Reactor Operator license or certification.
• Direct-supervisor or project-manager experience in a commercial nuclear environment.
• Plant production coordination, work-management, outage-control, or implementation experience.
• For the Level III scheduling lane, nuclear, renewable-energy, or major-construction scheduling experience beyond the minimum requirements.
