The VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System serves over 230,000 veterans in the Las Vegas metropolitan area and is part of the VA Sierra Pacific Network (VISN 21). The main medical center, located at 6900 N. Pecos Road in North Las Vegas, is a state-of-the-art facility offering comprehensive medical, surgical, and mental health services. The Radiology Service features advanced diagnostic imaging capabilities including CT, MRI, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and interventional radiology. Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations on multiple body areas including abdomen, pelvis, transvaginal, chest, small parts, thyroid, breast, scrotum, and extremities
• Perform vascular studies including vertebral, renal artery, aortic aneurysm, portal-systemic shunts, carotid, and peripheral arterial and venous evaluations
• Assist radiologists with ultrasound-guided biopsy procedures, determining location, depth, and required needle angle using sterile surgical technique
• Advise radiologists of significant abnormalities requiring immediate attention during examinations
• Perform sonographic examinations at bedside and in operating rooms on patients unable to be transported to the Imaging Section
• Utilize PACS to archive, validate, and transmit images; ensure studies are available for radiologic interpretation promptly after completion
• Interview patients to obtain pertinent medical history and medication usage; explain procedures and provide instructions
• Maintain and troubleshoot ultrasound equipment; report malfunctions promptly and maintain cleanliness of equipment and work areas
• Participate in training of physicians and students in principles of ultrasound imaging
• Stay current with technological advances in general and vascular sonography; incorporate advances into in-service educational programs

Qualifications

• Current ARDMS registration as Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) and/or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT)
• Current BLS/BCLS certification (American Heart Association or equivalent)
• Minimum 2 years of diagnostic ultrasound and/or vascular technology experience
• Proficiency with abdominal, OB/GYN, small parts, and vascular ultrasound protocols
• Knowledge of sterile technique for ultrasound-guided interventional procedures
• VA or federal healthcare experience preferred but not required

Monday Friday, 7:30 AM 4:00 PM. Overtime and on-call may be required as assigned.
