Course Assistant

Job Description In consultation with department management but working with a high degree of independence, applies in-depth knowledge of department requirements to determine the courses to be taught by the department / school / college toward the graduate degree. Takes into consideration the proper sequencing of courses, courses taught in other departments, and other complicating factors. Makes recommendations for replacement courses. The Course Assistant is responsible for assisting the Master of Science course leader(s) in all activities that support the course planning, conduct, and evaluation of the MS courses. This involves conducting curriculum planning and course scheduling in consultation with department / college / school management, faculty, the MS faculty and the Program Director. Also manages the curriculum mapping process using course syllabi and Illios course management tool. Analyzes enrollment trends. Responsibilities Work independently, in consultation with Program Director and course faculty, to plan courses and timelines for terms based upon program requirements, enrollment trends, course restrictions, and faculty availability (20% of time). Recommend replacement courses to department management when necessary (10%). Project future course planning based on faculty availability, sabbaticals, fellowships, grants, administrative assignments, and courses taught in other departments or universities (10%). Devises solutions to classroom space and scheduling problems, taking into account curriculum needs (10%). Advise department/school/college chair/dean on complex curricular issues and recommend courses of action when new courses or programs are introduced; update and track courses against MS program curriculum map (20%). Facilitate new course approval and curriculum revisions through coordination with college policy, Academic Senate or similar organization (5%). Research and analyze academic and program trends that may impact course offerings; participate in development of program assessment tools (15%). Assist program faculty with student attendance, enrollment, education technology needs and other course support functions (10%). Qualifications Required Bachelor’s degree in Global Health and 3+ years of experience or equivalent experience/training. Demonstrated experience in global health policy analysis, development and leadership. Experience in research methods and academic writing skills. Experience facilitating course instruction. Excellent communication and analytical skills. Ability to work with a variety of people in a complex environment. Preferred MS in Global Health and/or equivalent experience/training. Thorough knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs. Thorough knowledge of department, organization, and University policies, procedures, and directives. Thorough knowledge of department and school/college general and major course and degree requirements. Strong interpersonal skills to work with and gain trust from department senior management, faculty, and students. Proven ability in problem identification, reasoning, analysis to identify trends.
