Manufacturing Process Specialist

Location: Sterling Heights & Warren, MI (On-Site)
Pay Rate: $46.94/hour
Schedule: Full-Time | On-Site

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Manufacturing Process Specialist to support stamping operations across two manufacturing plants in the Metro Detroit area. This position plays a critical role in maintaining manufacturing layouts, optimizing material flow, and supporting new model launches.

The ideal candidate is an advanced AutoCAD user with automotive manufacturing experience. This role requires someone who can confidently create, update, and manage manufacturing layouts while collaborating with engineering, facilities, production, and safety teams in a fast-paced launch environment.

This position requires travel between both facilities, typically three days per week at one plant and two days per week at the other , with flexibility based on business needs.

Key Responsibilities

AutoCAD & Manufacturing Layouts

• Update and maintain AutoCAD layouts for both manufacturing facilities.
• Ensure all sub-assembly work cells accurately reflect current production material and equipment.
• Maintain accurate storage locations within CAD layouts.
• Develop line-side material layouts for future production programs.
• Collaborate with Plant Facilities and Process Engineers to ensure layouts remain current.
• Update layouts to support new material storage locations and production changes.

Material Flow & PFEP

• Maintain the Plan for Every Part (PFEP) and update data weekly or as required.
• Utilize engineering and manufacturing systems to maintain accurate production data.
• Perform material flow analysis for current and future production programs.
• Conduct storage capacity analysis and identify space requirements.
• Analyze dock capacity versus production requirements.
• Provide value stream data to Industrial Engineering for manpower planning.

Manufacturing Support

• Identify required material handling equipment for new product launches.
• Verify equipment shown on layouts meets operational requirements.
• Ensure GFR sizing is accurate.
• Partner with Process Engineers to validate station layouts and part sequencing.
• Support launch readiness activities for new production programs.
• Ensure compliance with current safety and ergonomic standards.
• Identify opportunities for improvements in manpower utilization, storage, and material flow.
• Coordinate production layout changes with operations to minimize production impact.

Required Qualifications

• Advanced AutoCAD experience (required) – this position is heavily focused on AutoCAD and requires someone who can work independently with minimal guidance.
• Automotive manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
• Stamping plant experience is highly preferred.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes and material flow.
• Experience maintaining manufacturing layouts.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and Access.
• Experience working with engineering data such as eBOM or similar systems.
• Working knowledge of ergonomics and manufacturing safety principles.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing launch environment.
• Team-oriented with a high level of professionalism and adaptability.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting automotive product launches.
• Knowledge of PFEP (Plan for Every Part).
• Experience working with Industrial Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering teams.
• Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience.

Key Performance Indicators

• Achieve approval of 100% of new model workstation layouts by Plant and Process Engineering teams.
• Ensure all stations meet Industrial Engineering and Safety/Ergonomic requirements.
• Validate proper material handling equipment and line-side inventory quantities.
• Complete material flow analysis for all new model parts.
• Maintain accurate PFEP data and AutoCAD layouts across both facilities.

Additional Information

• This is a fully on-site position supporting two manufacturing facilities in the Metro Detroit area.
• Travel between both facilities is required throughout the week.
• The manufacturing launch environment is fast-paced, and priorities may change quickly.
• Candidates with professional-level AutoCAD expertise and an automotive manufacturing background will be most successful in this role. Stamping experience is considered a significant advantage.
