Assembly Technician
$25 - $30 per hourJob Description
This role focuses on assembling, wiring, and integrating complex electromechanical machinery used for rework and automated soldering applications. You will contribute across the full lifecycle of the equipment, including machine building, testing, installation, and customer training. The position suits an energetic, hands-on technician who enjoys working in a small-company environment, collaborating with multiple departments, and interacting directly with customers.
Responsibilities
- Assemble new machines during product development, working closely with engineering to build, refine, and improve prototype and production systems.
- Assemble existing standard products, including mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic components, according to engineering drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
- Build, wire, and integrate electronic sub-assemblies, mechanical components, and pneumatic systems for rework and automated soldering machinery.
- Read and interpret mechanical blueprints, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams to ensure accurate assembly and integration.
- Perform functional and diagnostic testing on machinery, verifying performance against specifications and identifying any issues.
- Calibrate optical alignment systems, heating elements such as hot air and infrared, and motion control systems to meet strict operating tolerances.
- Inspect assembled machines for mechanical and electrical integrity, ensuring that all connections, fasteners, and components meet quality standards.
- Troubleshoot malfunctions and resolve assembly issues during the build process, including mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic faults.
- Use hand tools, power tools, multimeters, soldering irons, and other test equipment safely and effectively during assembly and testing.
- Train customers on the proper use, operation, and routine maintenance of the equipment, both in-house and potentially at customer sites.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Marketing, and Manufacturing teams to support continuous improvement, resolve technical issues, and provide feedback from the field.
- Work independently when required, managing your own tasks and priorities while maintaining high quality and productivity.
- Document work as needed, including recording test results, calibration settings, and any modifications performed on machines.
- 2–5 years of related experience in electromechanical assembly, robotics integration, or computer/electronics equipment repair.
- Proficiency in mechanical assembly methods for mechanisms, pneumatics, and electrical devices.
- Strong ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Knowledge of basic electrical schematics and circuit fundamentals.
- Hands-on experience using hand tools, power tools, multimeters, and soldering irons in an assembly or repair environment.
- Ability to perform functional and diagnostic testing on machinery and equipment.
- Capability to calibrate optical alignment systems, heating elements (such as hot air and infrared), and motion control systems.
- Good communication skills for working effectively with coworkers and customers, including the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
- Self-motivated approach with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated excellent work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.
- Manual dexterity and hand–eye coordination for working with small components and precision assemblies.
- Ability to lift equipment typically up to approximately 25–35 lbs as part of daily tasks.
- High school diploma, vocational certification, or an Associate’s Degree in electronics, computer technology, or a related engineering field.
- Familiarity with motion control elements, including both mechanical and electrical components.
- Experience working with optical elements such as cameras and vision systems.
- Background in robotic platforms and motion systems, including setup, integration, or troubleshooting.
- Proficiency with MS Word and Excel for basic documentation, reporting, and communication.
- Experience assembling, testing, or supporting rework and automated soldering machinery.
- Comfort using hand tools, power tools, and test equipment in a production or lab environment.
- Vocational training or additional certifications in electronics, mechatronics, or related technical disciplines.
You will work in a small, collaborative environment where your contributions directly influence the design, performance, and reliability of advanced electromechanical equipment. The role offers variety across assembly, testing, installation, and customer training, providing strong opportunities to expand your technical skills and gain broad exposure to engineering, manufacturing, and field support. You will have the chance to work closely with cross-functional teams, see the impact of your work in real-world applications, and develop your career in a setting that values initiative, quality, and hands-on problem-solving.
Work Environment
The work environment is a small-company setting that encourages close collaboration with Engineering, Marketing, and Manufacturing teams. Daily work involves a mix of bench and floor assembly of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems using hand tools, power tools, multimeters, soldering irons, and other test equipment. You will work with motion control components, optical elements such as cameras, and heating systems including hot air and infrared technologies. The role typically follows a standard daytime schedule, with periods of focused individual work as well as joint efforts with colleagues to complete builds and resolve issues. The environment emphasizes safe handling of tools and equipment, careful attention to detail, and adherence to documented procedures. Dress is generally practical and appropriate for a technical assembly and test setting, allowing comfortable movement and safe operation of tools and machinery.
