Reserve Police Officer

Position Summary Reserve Police Officer – Volunteer Police Officer who serves the community on a part‑time basis, wearing the same uniform and performing the same duties as full‑time Police Officers. Volunteer Duty Details Possible compensation of $36.90 per hour for court appearances or when needed. Minimum commitment of 32 hours per month during field training (first year) and 16 hours per month thereafter. Volunteer status; no sworn authority. Essential Functions Provide exceptional customer service and maintain highest ethical standards. Respond to calls for service regarding accidents, emergencies, crimes, threats, altercations, and requests for assistance. Administer first aid to injured persons. Interview, interrogate, and record statements from witnesses, suspects, and victims. Identify relevant facts and prepare written reports on incidents and assigned cases. Promote community‑based policing programs emphasizing collaborative problem‑solving. Apprehend suspects using safe driving, foot pursuit, subduing techniques, and self‑defense. Enforce traffic laws, direct traffic, issue citations and warnings, investigate accidents and related matters. Invite juveniles to appropriate authorities for review of neglect or delinquency. Serve subpoenas, warrants, testify in court, mark and store evidence, and coordinate with the City/District Attorney’s Office. Drive on City business as necessary. Assume personal responsibility for safe, efficient performance of duties. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Experience: none required. Education / Training: High‑school graduation, State Board of Education proficiency certificate, GED, CHSPE, HiSET, or CPP certificate. Licenses / Certifications: Valid Class C California driver’s license. Age: Minimum 21 years at appointment. Legal Authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law. Criminal: Good moral character; no felony or misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude. Medical / Psychological: Must pass a pre‑placement medical examination and a psychological evaluation. Hearing: Acceptable as to City standards. Residence: Within 60 contiguous land miles of the Glendale Civic Center within four months of employment. Other Requirements Willingness to maintain a safe working environment. Availability to work overtime as requested. Tattoo policy: No visible tattoos or body art while on duty; must be covered by uniform or attire.
