Senior Director, Global Procurement

Abbott Laboratories

Abbott seeks a Senior Director for Global Procurement within its Core Diagnostics division in Lake Forest, Illinois. The role manages approximately $1.4 billion in annual purchasing across raw materials, services, equipment, and third-party manufacturing, requiring leadership of procurement teams and strategic supplier negotiations.

Responsibilities

Develop and execute procurement strategies for $1.4B+ annual expenditures across multiple categories
Hire, develop, and coach procurement professionals with focus on succession planning
Lead supplier relationship management and oversee performance-based contracting across 400+ suppliers
Resolve critical supply chain issues including supplier performance variability and business continuity risks
Partner with R&D and Engineering leadership to acquire specialized research materials and support innovation

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Technical field
12+ years of procurement, sourcing, or purchasing experience
Proven expertise in negotiations, commercial law, and financial analysis
Experience leading distributed teams and managing supplier relationships
Knowledge of manufacturing processes, quality control, and materials management
Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Technical field preferred
Certified Purchasing Manager Certificate preferred
