Community Corrections Officer 2 (Or CCO1) - SAU North - Tacoma

Community Corrections Officer 2 (or CCO1) Location: Tacoma, WA. Monthly Salary Range: CCO1: $4,603–$6,190; CCO2: $5,610–$7,540. Salary depends on qualifications. Minimum starting salary for a CCO1 placement begins at Step G ($5,338 per month). Responsibilities Supervise criminal supervised individuals (S/Is) in accordance with Washington State law, Interstate Compact Rules, and agency policy. Conduct investigations, searches, issue warrants, and make arrests. Complete intake and administer assessments related to risk, needs, and substance abuse. Manage electronic and hard‑copy files and reports. Engage with S/Is using communication strategies such as Motivational Interviewing and Principles of Effective Interventions. Enforce supervision conditions and present accurate written documentation and oral testimony; make sanction recommendations for courts or hearings. Identify, collect, document, and maintain evidence with proper chain of custody. Exercise sound judgment and follow Department firearms policies, including use of safety vest and handling of department‑issued firearms. Ensure proper safety and security measures while armed during off‑site contact with S/Is. Other Duties Other duties as assigned. Qualifications – Community Corrections Officer 1 (CCO1) Must be able to carry and properly utilize a Department‑issued firearm. Must possess an unrestricted vehicle operator’s license valid in Washington. Willingness to work with individuals with criminal backgrounds and anti‑social behaviors; review graphic materials while remaining objective. Demonstrated ability through college‑level coursework or experience in at least three of the following: Written communication Critical thinking Analytical reasoning Conflict resolution Situational awareness Problem‑solving Organizational skills Work independently Flexibility One of the following educational/experience combinations: High school diploma or GED + at least four years of qualifying experience. Associate or technical degree + two years of qualifying experience. Bachelor’s degree. Equivalent combination totaling four years. Qualifications – Community Corrections Officer 2 (CCO2) Must be able to carry and properly utilize a Department‑issued firearm. Must possess an unrestricted vehicle operator’s license valid in Washington. Willingness to work with individuals with criminal backgrounds and anti‑social behaviors; review graphic materials while remaining objective. Demonstrated ability through college‑level coursework or professional work experience in at least three of the following: Making field visits. Preparing written correspondence, reports, and/or documents. Assessing cases and making recommendations. Referring people to appropriate resources. Presenting cases in court or hearings. Completing assessments of risk factors. Designing, monitoring, and/or facilitating treatment plans. Determining and making referrals to resources such as chemical‑dependency, substance abuse, family counseling, job training assistance, etc. Maintaining official records and tracking progress of supervised individuals. Assisting supervised individuals who cannot independently access support systems. Making sound case‑management decisions under stressful conditions and interpreting detailed legal documents accurately. Using computers and software to enter, retrieve, and store data. Managing caseloads with conflicting priorities. Identifying community‑based resources for treatment and programming. Communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, with staff and external stakeholders. Working independently and closely with system‑based stakeholders. One of the following educational/experience combinations: One year as a Community Corrections Officer within DOC. Associate or technical degree + three years of relevant experience. Bachelor’s degree + one year of relevant experience. Equivalent combination totaling five years. Special Requirements & Conditions of Employment Complete a felony disclosure form and submit a criminal background check. Complete and pass the psychological screening (battery exam and psychological interview/evaluation). Submit to drug testing in accordance with collective bargaining agreement and agency policy. Successfully complete mandatory employee orientation and all required annual and in‑service training. Successfully complete the Firearms Academy and Control/Impedance Tactics training, including meeting all firearm eligibility, qualification, re‑qualification, and annual clearance requirements.
