We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Surgical Physician Assistant to join our dynamic Liver Transplant department at Gracious Health Medical Hospital in McKinney, Texas. In this full-time, onsite role, you will play a pivotal part in providing comprehensive care to patients undergoing liver and abdominal transplant procedures, both in inpatient and outpatient settings. Your responsibilities will encompass pre-operative and post-operative management, as well as participation in surgical procedures, ensuring patients receive world-class care throughout their treatment journey.

Work Environment

The Surgical Center at Gracious Health Medical Hospital offers a state-of-the-art facility equipped with cutting-edge technology to support complex surgical procedures. As a Physician Assistant, you will work closely with a collaborative team of attending physicians, fellows, nursing staff, and surgical personnel in an environment that encourages professional development and teamwork. Our five-day workweek features 8-hour shifts, with a schedule of Monday through Friday, alongside monthly on-call responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate and treat patients with acute and chronic complaints related to liver and abdominal health, ensuring comprehensive care that addresses both immediate and long-term needs.
• Conduct thorough patient assessments, including obtaining complete medical histories and performing pertinent physical examinations to guide treatment decisions.
• Manage diagnostic studies, interpreting results and adjusting treatment plans as necessary to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
• Administer medications in accordance with formulary protocols and under the supervision of licensed physicians, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
• Order diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures, coordinating closely with laboratory and radiology departments to facilitate patient care.
• Assist in the operating room as either a first or second assistant, demonstrating competency in surgical techniques relevant to liver transplantation.
• Engage in continuous patient education and counseling, empowering patients and families to actively participate in their healthcare decisions.
• Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care processes and outcomes.
• Recognize and respond to urgent medical situations, initiating appropriate life-saving procedures when required.
• Facilitate smooth transitions for patients between inpatient and outpatient care, ensuring that all necessary documentation and follow-up care is appropriately managed.

Patient Population / Client Focus

This role focuses primarily on patients undergoing liver and abdominal transplantation, which requires a nuanced understanding of the unique challenges these patients face. Your work will directly impact patients from diverse backgrounds who are battling severe health issues, emphasizing the importance of personalized and compassionate care tailored to individual needs.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university, with a focus in an appropriate field.
• Successful completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc.
• Current PA State License to practice in Texas.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and a valid Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration.
• A Minimum of one year of clinical experience, ideally in surgical or transplant settings.

Preferred Experience

• Previous experience in surgical assisting or transplant care is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with electronic medical record systems for efficient patient documentation and communication.
• Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and participating in shared care models.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual salary for this position ranges from USD 140,000 to 180,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
